  • What do you think?

So I have just started this WOE again and this time I really want to add exercise. I would like to start running but I don't have a treadmill and can't afford or even have the time for a gym membership. Plus I live in Maine and it is getting cold outside so it is not very good running weather. Now...with that being said....I know it sounds like a lot of excuses...I was wondering about running/jogging in place. It is something I could do in my living room that is cheap and hopefully affective. I was also thinking about going up and down my flight of stairs. I figured if I did those two things for a half hour or so it would be a good start. What do you think??

Sounds good, just make sure you actually do it. You could also buy a cardio exercise dvd just to mix up your routine.

      Hi,

Firstly, I think it is great that you want to add exercise this time.

Secondly, I hear you on the cold - I can't imagine how cold it gets in Maine, but don't rule it out altogether. Here are some sites about running in cold weather: http://www.runnersrescue.com/Cold_We...nning_Tips.htm

http://running.about.com/od/runningi...terruntips.htm though both say to scale it back in Winter - but still, it may be of use.

Also, I think Hoping is right - getting some videos or DVDs that you can use in the home is an excellent way to get in shape. Pre-Atkins I regularly did Cindy Crawford DVDs, though dated I found I could stick with them longer. But there are loads out there.

Here are some threads where ADBB members have talked about their faves: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=42792

http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=39214 - this one particularly good.

And some threads about free online exercise videos: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=42210

Personally, I'm not sure than running in place would be sustainable for a long time, I imagine it could be boring. Skipping rope may be useful, if you have space. I had a friend who did this and she gradually worked up to being able to do it for a whole song, then 2, etc.

Also, pushups, situps, lunges, stability ball work and weight lifting can all be done at home with sucess. I've done all of these (except stability ball) and there are challenges for them all you can get involved in here.

      Best of luck
