Well, I missed my Monday run because DH and I are on vacation this week and we went to Seaworld yesterday .. but today (Tuesday), I'm back on track with 6+ miles in this morning, with a couple of strong fartleks thrown in!
8 miles in. This run included some speed work. It had 10 x 100m strides. Basically ten 100m sprints with just enough "slow" running between to let the heart rate drop. I actually hit around 6:05 minutes/mile during the short sprints. Basically, it is a structured fartlek (love that word).
Not feeling too bad right now. I'll see if that's still the case in the morning.
Starting to get my mojo back for the first time since Chicago. This new training plan has got me fired up again.
I *knew* you'd get that MOJO back!! You're a runner and you have no choice but to run !!!
Deb, a fartlek is defined as:
A Swedish term meaning speed play. A type of workout which allows the runner while on a continuous run to use fast, moderate, or slow periods of running alternated as desired by the runner. This workout is both aerobic and anaerobic.
Basically, its speed drills!!! Fartleks, when done regularly, will help your body adapt to running faster with less effort. Particularly useful when preparing for a race.
Leave it to the Swedes to come up with an entertaining word like that to describe hard work!!!
Well, its RAINING this morning in the Sunshine State (or at least on the west coast), so my run has been postponed until later today if the skies clear .. we shall see ... I really need to run today to prepare for Saturday's 5k.
Well the rain let up, so I headed out for 6+ miles .. started misting again at about 4.5 miles, and the last 1.1 was a downpour! But hey, I finished it!
