All gyms will have personal trainers (well should do), when you join you should make an appointment to see one of them, they will as you what you want to achieve and will create a work out especially for you. They are worth their weight in gold!

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Congratulations on joining a gym. I go to Curves which is a 30 minute circuit workout...so the routine is established for you. My club is really strict and they watch you on the machines to make sure that you are using the equipment properly.

      Good luck,

I could not agree with Rich more.

If you're going to the gym, most will offer at free or reduced cost session with a personal trainer. Personally, I'd recommend that you have at least two sessions with one to get you started. They'll give you a fitness evaluation, ask you about your limitations and preferences and then they'll help you develop a routine to get you working towards your personalized goals. They'll take you through the routine and make sure you know how to do each exercise properly and are using the equipment safely and properly (which is why I'd recommend a second session to help work the bugs out - but do at least one!). It really is worth it's weight in gold.

Every single time I've gone to the gym I see lost souls walking around with no real plan or idea what to do or I see people straining and/or using equipment incorrectly. The potential to hurt yourself doing stuff like that is huge - so set yourself up for success!

Kass mentioned Curves and they're a wonderful place to start (or continue for that matter) too!

Congrats on digging in and doing something that's both addictive AND healthy at the same time. LOL (Don't hear that too often, do ya?!)

You should start by doing compound exercises (squats, deadlifts, bench press, row military press etc,..). The more muscle you have, the more calories your muscles will burn at rest. Dont be like most women and be afraid to lift heavy thinking that in 1-2 workouts you will become arnold Schwarzzaneggar.
