  • At home exercises?

Does anyone have any good exercises to do at home? And how many reps and sets or for how long do you exercise for? I would like exercises that speed up the weight loss process and show the greatest effect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Re: At home exercises?

At home i do weight training, about 20 minutes a time but every time i do it i do a small bit more, like one more rep and when i get in 15 reps i up the weight by 0.5kg and start of with 12reps again.

      Re: At home exercises?

There are plenty of effective exercises (Resistance Training) that one could do at home. In fact, I am a firm believe that Resistance Training (IE, lifting weights) is the number one aid to fat loss in conjunction with the right eating style. Notice I said FAT LOSS there, not “weight loss”. Many times, when a person diets, they burn off their muscle as well as their fat. When they finish, they’ve lost weight, but they merely look like a smaller version of what they looked like before. When I cut down, I am looking to cut fat. Period. I don’t want to lose muscle. Weight training allows one to cut fat while reaping quite a few of the fat loss rewards that certain “cardio” sessions allow us. That’s not to say I am against cardio, but I believe it goes hand in hand with weight training.

I am sure I could come up with a little something for you, but there are several factors I would need to know of before recommending anything:

For instance, do you have any type of weight training equipment? (Not necessary, but every little piece of hardware helps)

What are your goals? You looking to build some muscle while you shed some fat, or keep what you have?

      Are you new to lifting?

      How old are you?

      Male or female?

Anything else you think is relevant about yourself would also be helpful, IE, injuries, health problems etc.

I’m more than happy to help, and I do know “a little”. Let me know what I can do!

            Re: At home exercises?

            I agree, WEIGHT TRAINING!

Your best "bang for your buck" might be circuit training. Circuit training is a series of exercises done in sequence with little or no break. This maximizes your time and gives you a great workout. There are tons of circuit training workouts already out there, google "circuit training" and see what comes up!

Along with circuit training, standard weight lifting is an excellent choice. In fact, I get the most benefits when I do strength training for the majority of my workouts. Strength training actually MORPHS your body. Like Legend said, without weights (only cardio) people tend to become smaller versions of what they used to look like, rather than changing their bodies into a toned and pleasing shape. Weightlifting actually gave me an HOURGLASS shape. I used to be a complete "apple".

Use shapefit (the website above) to find exercises. If you do strength training, divide your body up into days. You can do upper body on one day and lower on another, or you could do chest/back on one day, lower body on another, and arms/shoulders on yet another. Just make sure you give the muscle groups sufficient rest before you work them again.

              Re: At home exercises?

back in the good old days when I was in pretty good shape I found the best type of excercises to do were ones that didn't isolate one muscle at a time (weight machines). Pushups, situps, squat thrusts, reverse pushups, pullups and dips. they hit multiple muscle groups at a time and they work your core at the same time.

I know a lot of those are tough to do but you can find ways to start out light.

also for cardio the best I find to do at home are jumping jacks and jumping rope.

What do you mean? I thought there was really no such thing as losing weight in one area only.....

I used to do weights at the Y but no time for that anymore -- is there any cheap alternative to a gym?

I have a Gazelle which was pretty cheap and is low-impact. I just do a minute more per day, similar to Paul adding reps.

                  Re: At home exercises?

I workout at home. I mainly did Slim in 6 from beachbody.com and now I'm doing their P90X program. I have P90, but never really got into it. I love my programs! They work for me. They may not be what you're looking for, but I thought that I would present the options to you anyways. Good luck with your workout program!
