  • Should there even *be* a Cool Running thread anymore?

Not quite sure if there's much interest in this thread any more ... maybe I'll just keep track of my own mileage some other way .. OPINIONS??

As for me, Tuesday, 2/19: 6.3 miles.

I personally am quite interested in seeing what all the longer distance runners are getting up to.

I always feel like my mileage is too small to log here

I keep track in the mileage challenge.

When I am able to run again, I will still use it. But with my chest infection running is one of the last things I can do.

Oh and I have pulled out of the marathon too.

I would love to run a marathon. I usually only run two miles whenever I'm on the tread mill at the gym, but I also up my speed so that I can improve on my time. Maybe if I keep it at a moderate speed I can do more.

Betty, I am the woman who can only run past 2 mailboxes in my neighborhood, lol. Nay, make that..Jog. I cant run at all. How do I start? Wasnt there a couch to 5k site or something? I want to (for the first time since exiting my mothers womb) run.

                But where do I begin?

Right now, I have just started exercising again and am getting a new treadmill tomorrow. I am out of shape since stopping atkins for pregnancy so I can speedwalk and them jog for 1 to 2 mins max then in about 5 mins, do it again, lol

Yep, we all have to start somewhere though I guess. Just not sure how to actually go from where I am to "RUNNING" . Though this is the one thing I wasnt to do more than any exercise. probably because its the one I thought i never could.

Oh mothercooter!! I am so proud of you for wanting to start running! And I totally agree with you when you say you want to probably because its the one thing you thought you could never do. That was EXACTLY what motivated me to start nearly 5 years ago! ME? A RUNNER? Believe me, if I can do it at 47 (nearly 4-8, ANYONE CAN. I'm so excited fer ya!

Here's the link to the Couch to 5k plan. Its a great way to start and it really WILL make you a runner, promise! First, though .. do you have a great pair of running shoes? Not walking shoes, RUNNING shoes ... VERY IMPORTANT. If you have a running store in your area, please go and have them fit you in the perfect running shoe. I NEVER SKRIMP when it comes to my shoes ... they are your ONLY DEFENSE against injuries of all kinds and believe me, you don't want to begin a running program only to get injured and have to quit! Personally, I love New Balance shoes, mainly because I have a narrow bony foot and they are sized for narrow widths. But find one YOU LOVE and one that LOVES YOUR FEET and make the investment! You'll be ever so glad you did!

Good luck and please post your progress here! I can't wait to read all about it!

Hi everybody. I would love to join you guys. I am more of a jogger. I do my jogging on the treadmill. I jog about a 15 minute mile. That is probably funny to you guys but hey you got to start somewhere. I am currently trying to get that number lower. Any suggestions on how to do that? Did you increase your speed weekly, monthly, etc. I am currently at 4mph.
