  • exercise, the ultimate antidepressant?

My first day of the 6wec I went for 2 hours on the treadmill some walking, some jogging nothing too fancy. When I got off I could tell I needed to pace myself next time. I felt as if I had just gotten off of a trampoline and needed to readjust to gravity. Felt weird getting back on solid ground at first. About 10 mins later (after the vertigo passed) I felt a littel nauseous. It passed. AFter it did something awesome happened. I felt like someone slipped me a happy pill.

What in the world was I doing singing opera in my kitchen? That wonderful feeling didnt go away until the next day. I have only done 30 mins since then and havent gotten that effect again (unfortunately) but wow.

What they say really is true. Exercise is a cure for depression. Of course everyone has heard that but to feel it is completely different. I have also noticed a huge change in my mood overall since exercising.

Cant believe I even tried to do atkins last time without exercise. Many ppl do though, and yeah a lot still get results but I think I know better now that the main purpose of atkins isnt quick weight loss in the short term but a complete lifestyle change that allows us get healthy inside AND out for life.

OMG!! This exact thing happened to me today as well. I have not exercised since July '07
and have been having panic attacks, mood swings, overall stiffness throughout my body, and aches and pains for no good reason. Went to the Dr. and don't have any kind of medical condition. I guess it was my body trying to tell me to get off my A** and do something. I just started walking on my treadmill for about an hour a day (during Nancy Grace show) lol. After this evenings workout I had so much energy and I was just so happy and started looking forward to the weekend and making mental plans about the next few days, picturing myself skinny and all these great things. What big difference from the thoughts and feelings that I was having just a few days ago. I was in a real rut. Didn't look forward to anything, said "whats the point I am going to die anyway", I felt like I was in this dark, dark world. I am going to exercise everyday.

Sounds like you guys got "Runners High"... a release of endorphins that comes from working out that apparently is really awesome... Some get it during, some after.
