    Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has ever used the P90X by beachbody.com. I ordered it a few weeks ago and started using it this week. It is really kicking my butt.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone had used it in the past and what their experience was with it.

Yep going through it right now... I am starting week 3, and while it is tough, I can definitely see differences. There is a whole host of P90x vloggers documenting our progress on Youtube. I don't subscribe to the eating plan which seems closer to the a low Cal - higher protein - low fat.

Thanks Kent. I am also in week 3 of the P90X challenge, I even started a challenge for it in the excercise challenge forum, drop on by so we can hold each other up through the insanity that is Tony Horton.

Actually it's not that bad, don't get me wrong it's intense but i really love the workouts.

I was wondering about the food, glad to hear that you stick to atkins. You hear so many things going back and forth about what should be eaten or not. Do you drink the recovery or not, take the supplements. It's just so confusing.

I haven't been doing anything but atkins and the excercise. Not strict induction but trying to stay low carb as much as possible. School stress sabotages me.

Anyway, working P90X is definatly hard but I enjoy pushing play every morning at dawn.

There is one change I have been doing. Post workout I do drink a Whey Protein recovery drink just to bump up my protein intake for muscle repair purposes. It definitely does a body good to see progress on the back & chest exercises or your abs not feeling like they are going to rip in two.

Hey Indy! It's good to see another familiar face in here.

Kent and Yoly, Is the program mostly weight and strength training? I need serious strength training but I want to keep running as my cardio. How are you juggling the two kent?

Also, is this something that is better closer to goal?

My DH and I have this program and have done it - intense! I love it.

I just started induction, though, so I don't have that much energy for Mr. Tony.

I usually sub the P90X cardio workouts for jogging

That's what I was afraid of. I want to eventually run long distances and can't see how I can do that with 6 days a week of P90X *sighs* The program looks amazing.

                    Re: P90x

It's pretty tough but definatly doable. I am no where near goal and I am in the middle of week three. I don't think you need to be at goal to take it on, you do need to have some excerience with regular workouts though, sounds like you have that down.

I would highly encourage everyone to try this program, seriously, I haven't done anything that makes me feel as strong as P90X. It's only been three weeks and this very morning I used 10 pound weights for shoulders and biceps, that is very new for me, usually I am around 5 pounds for shoulders, that's what I started with two weeks ago. It really does build strength quickly.

The cardio workouts are intense, I felt like throwing up the first time I did plyo. But now it is much easier, plus I love burning almost 800 calories during 1 hour of plyo.

                      Re: P90x

Kent - thanks for the tip, I too have been having whey protein after a workout. I did buy this low carb recovery drink that the guy at GNC suggested was similar to P90X's but I kind of freaked out because it had a small amount of creatine, which side effect equates to gaining weight! Not what I am trying to do at all. I dropped it and every once in a while will do the whey.

I am finishing up my third week here soon and I am seriously considering doubles for next cycle. I know I may seem crazy but I am worried about the amount of cardio that I do and the rate that I am losing. With slim in 6 I slimmed down very quickly, but that was solely cardio intensive. I may do P90X in the morning and then 3 - 4 nights a week when I'm not too exhausted I may squeeze in some Si6 or something. Just to increase cardio.

For you P90Xers out there, do you think that I may be in danger of overtraining if I add more cardio in the evenings?

I doubt it, on top of P90X I play basketball for an hour during lunch three days a week and every other day of the week I jog 2-3.5 miles.

Just stay hydrated and take your vitamins.

To your final question - I would suggest you do the FitTest and if you can match or get close to matching the minimums, I would say go ahead and do it. The beauty of the program is you can customize it or make it easier if you need too. I know I am not knocking out 20-30 chinups yet or even more than 4 regular (not chair-assisted chinups).

As to how to do running and it at the same time, you need space out your workouts by 4 or 5 hours. I normally do my P90x in the morning before work, and then run after work. It does work, and if my half mary yesterday was any indication, P90x made me a "tougher" runner. By tougher, I mean I walked less and didn't slow for the hills hardly at all. My weekly miles are a lot lower, and I am not sure I could do marathon training with the associated 35-45 mpw with my current workload. Perhaps after my fireman's training is over, I can focus on getting my miles back up (over 22-25mpw).

I double up on cardio, and I think as long as you don't beat yourself with a lot of hard miles, you should be fine. My long run day (morning) is definitely going to be a StretchX or low intensity P90x day in the evening. You may not have to do specific hard training (like hill workouts) as much either if you've built your quads and hams with lunges and plyo as well.

P90X is intense but if you are really looking for that cardio intensity try doing both p90x and p90x+. I know beachbody is coming out with a new program called Insanity that is all cardio.
