I think it's fantastic. I don't know how long I could keep all that exercise up for :yikes

    Good for you

I'm sure the other guys will be able to comment more on the actual scientific stuff.

By the way, your pictures look excellent and I can't believe you weigh 295, you must be really, really tall - either way you pull it off well :hug

I have said this in another post. Most fitness experts agree that when your dieting you should'nt exercise (at first) more than 45 minutes of cardio a day. Here is why. Most dieters reach a plateau throughout their diet and they try to cut back, and other kakadoodle things that never work, they get fed up and they quit. By only doing 45 minutes of cardio at first (when your losing weight well), when you hit a plateau you are able to up it, by doing 45 minutes of cardio plus 1 mile. See if that starts getting you going. If you hit another plateau you up it to 45 min cardio and then 2 miles and so on. Visit the experts at www.elitefitness.com and they will explain this!

Also. With as much cardio as you are doing you are going to burn some LBM. That is not good. You MUST , M.U.S.T (no option) add some sort of weight training into your week (3-4x a week). Muscle is what burns fat the best. By doing a ton of cardio you are gonna lose some fat and muscle. When you lose the muscle, you are losing your ability to burn fat while doing nothing - otherwise known as your BMR. When your BMR drops, your ability to lose weight diminishes slowly. Even if it is just a couple sets of working your bi's, tri's, calves, chest, abs, and thighs it will help you to retain muscle (and even add some) which will add more LBM, raise your BMR, and raise how much weight you can lose!

Good look and happy Atkining! :yes

I think your exercise is fine. Watch your possibility of injury by overworking yourself by keeping your heart rate low. For weight training, do what you can. The cardio that you are doing will have resistance built into it just as mine did when my muscles were worked just simply to move me. If you need some extra resistance training, you could add wrist weights (1 or 2.5#) to your walks. Overall, though you are doing very well

I think you are doing wonderfully, starlight goddess, and 45 minutes a day is minimum what I'd do at your fitness level. I'll bet that in a month or two you'll easily be going for an hour!

                Good for you!

Emo-- please be kind to others and don't berate their advice. If it's something you don't adhere to, that's fine. But look at that hottieman, bowulf and others who think his is good advice. It's worked for them. And how!

Perhaps what you might say instead is "that's not advice I would follow, but I think you look very attractive in a male-appreciating-male kind of way, so it's apparent that works very well for you. Work it honey."

Personally my feelings on excercise is just to do what you can. Its amazing how quickly you build up resistance and improve your capacity to do more.

I am trying to help both the poster and Bowulf out. I have EXTENSIVE physical training. I only gained weight after a large injury. 95% of diets (FACT) gain their weight back after they lose it (I agree Bowulf has lost weight right now) by the advice some people are giving on here and I dont want that to happen. I want people to be happy after they have lost their weight and not gain it back. But whatever - I will let them do whatever they want. Good luck.

Yup 95% of dieters do regain the weight. That's what I like the most about Atkins, it has a lifetime maintenance plan to counteract that. And of course exercise plays a major part in what your CCLM (critical carb level for maintenance) is, the more exercise usually the higher your CCLM.

One thing I've learnt about training is there is always going to be different opinions on what works best. Some trainers still now recommend women only do light weights high reps, yet lots of us disagree with that Plus with Atkins we have a metabolic advantage over regular carb eaters with regard to cardio, we don't need to do 30 mins before we start burning fat (takes that long to burn off carb stores).

Lots of people here are new to exercise. When I first started I was so unfit I wondered how I'd ever be able to increase my weights on the bars, or time doing cardio. However perseverance paid off and now I even amaze myself.

I guess what I'm saying is do what works for you, if it isn't working, then try something different.
