Marathon number 6 complete.
Finished in 4:56:33. About 10 minutes slower than I had hoped.
Overall I'm happy though.
Evidently, I didn't read the course description real well. It turned out to be 26.2 miles of HILLS. I train on very flat ground.
I finished the last 2 miles with bad quad cramps. I'm still real sore even today (Thursday) and the race was Sunday.
For those who haven't run a marathon (or even for those who have), the last 6.2 miles are the toughest you'll ever run. At the 24 mile or so mark (feeling the effects of all the hills), I asked a volunteer if we were through with the hills. He said, "You don't know about the bridge?" Obviously, I didn't. About 24 and a half miles in is a HUGE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE. You know, the kind with the steep spiral ramps at both ends. I nearly stopped.
On a great note, I had my wife and two kids waiting for me at the finish line. Priceless.
I'm hooked. Marathon 7 will be in Indianapolis in October.
