  • is swimming good?

Hi Everyone how are you all, well im a little sad today :sadblinky as so far i have only lost 3lb in my 10 day industion.I let myself down for a few days so this is probably why. Anyway on a more positive note, I would like to start some exercise as im extremly lazt (you would not believe :nod ) and all i do every day is go to university and back, then have dinner and watch TV. I feel quite tired and run down still...maybe this is the induction flu a bit...but im to embarrased and to insecure to go jogging or to gym. I have GG cup boobs so as you can imagine it not good running up and down on the treadmill heee! ohhh what a picture you must have in your head. Basicall i think the only thing ienjoy is swimming. If i were to swim for 45 minutes a week is it good to burn fat, as i do enjoy swimming.I just need some tips on how to get out of my dull lazy routine. THanks everyone for all your support, I apprecaite it.
    Love Gill :hug xxx

Any physical activity is a good start, even just a little walking. Swimming is great exercise as it is easy on your joints (as well as other areas).

    Have fun swimming!!

Yes swimming is one of the best excercises out there. But strictly speaking you should be looking at doing about 30 minutes worth of excercise a day (at a minimum to be honest). Not 45 a week.

But even if you were to do 30 minutes of steady walking a day thats a good place to start.

30 minutes of walking + a good sports bra could work a treat.

      I hope this helps.

just cause you can blacken your own eye jogging is no excuse not to work out. Manyof us were in that situation whne we started too. Richt doesn't understand about size for boobs or he'd know they do not make sports bras that large that sell in the dept store and you got to specail order here is a good place to start http://www.enell.com/custom.html

you can however walk with your normal supporting bra on the treadmill every day to start. go as fast as you feel you can for as long as you can and build yourself up.
Swimming every day would be good too.

You have done just fine with your induction with only 46 pounds to lose 4 pounds is right where you should be. Just think how much faster you will be getting to goal when you add the mandatory exercise part of your Atkins (DANDR chapters 15 and 22) to the plan you were doing on your own before.

Its funny you should say that, as whilst I was typing it I was mentally thinking "I wonder if they make sports bra's that big!"?

          Thanks! LOL

                Re: is swimming good?

Swimming is the only exercise I do since I've had problems with feet and knees for over ten years. It was serious work at first just to do a couple of laps but now I'm up to .5km 6 days a week plus stretching and some water exercises.
I went to a trainer at the community fitness centre and asked if I could audit one of her "aqua-cise" courses. I went to two of them. One was geared towards people with arthritis who needed a no-impact work-out and another for folks recovering from heart attacks or surgeries. I was amazed at how good it felt to do calisthenic-type exercises in the water. I was more amazed at how hard these recovering 'invalids' worked out. I was shattered when I crawled out of the water after 45 minutes.
I used some of the moves I learned there and made a work-out for myself. My joints are better, I have some tone in my upper arms and while my feet and knees still let me down I can go farther in more comfort than I could before.
Oh, and I lost 25kg while doing it. Swimming is good!

                  Re: is swimming good?

                  I swim 2500 Metres a day 5 days a week (1&/2 Miles)
I do this in around 1 hour in a 50 metre olympic pool which means a good steady pace & flip turns at every turn.

Health & exercise professionals all agree that swimming is the ultimate all aerobic, calorie burning exercise. The water is the most pefectly designed workout machine in the world, the faster you swim the more resistance you get. Slow down & the resistance decreases

It is totally nonimpact (no injuries) endurance building activity & if you ramp up the speeds it becomes anerobic strength building too. Swimming rocks & is a great starting point for severly obese people to get them exercising again w/o injury

I do also run, lift, use a Nordic Track as part of my regular program BUT swimming is my CORE exercise! For all around health it is the BEST of them all. I have been swimming at my current pool for close to 10 years & it is 80% the same people in the morning that I started w/10 years ago.

It is an activity that you can continue to do as you get older, Nobody runs or lifts or goes to the gym consistantly for decades(trust me maybe a couple of years max) but regular swimmers do keep it up & the number of extremely healthy older people you see at the pool is because they have been swimmers for decades as their core activity too!

If you swim every day YOU WILL BE HEALTHY
I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once
