  • I just signed up for my third marathon!

    March 1, 2009 ... right here in Tampa. I believe this will be my final marathon.

    Betty, congrats! A marathon is a huge undertaking. Just out of curiousity, what training plan do you follow and when do you start training?

            Julie, I plan to follow Hal Higdon's 18 week program. I've never used a marathon training guide before, so this will be interesting. His plans seem very doable. I officially will start the week of October 26 .. hopefully by then, this Florida heat will have abated some !

            Joy, yes, I am doing Gasparilla. I did it in 2006 too. Loved it.

                Good luck in Tampa! I'm currently using Hal Higdon't Intermediate II schedule. It's my favorite of the different one's I've used. A lot of other programs have way more miles per week.

                    WOW! Your third marathon!! Congrats! I will be sending good vibes your way from Kansas.

                    You've been a HUGE inspiration to many folks around here with your running, fitness, and positive attitude. As a former couch potato with new-found 5K aspirations, I can only dream about completing my first marathon, but I will always look to you for inspiration. Thanks for everything, Bette!

                      Awww, you guys are the bestest! Joy, I will look for you .. heaven knows I need all the encouragement I can get!

                      Rich, I think Hal's program is very doable. I chose the Novice II program even though I currently run more miles than that every week (typically 30, with my long run between 12 and 13 miles every Saturday morning). I think I can easily manage his training program and hopefully it will help me finish in a good time. I am most concerned about my big toe on my left foot. I have what is known as hallux rigidus (google it) .. I think its a genetic issue unfortunately with that foot .. I will wear orthotics definitely for this marathon ... Biogeek, you are more than welcome! I always hope that I can help to inspire people to believe that if I can do it, they can do it! I'm no exception .. HONEST! Atkins and exercise ... IT WORKS FOR EVERYONE!
