  • I've just signed up for a 5k!

I'm really excited! It is no marathon but it is a start and I am really pleased that I've come this far! I'm going to visit my family in the US in July and we have ALL signed up to do a 5k together! You would have to know my family to know how truly crazy this seems!

We are so not runners! Ever! Except maybe back to the living room from the fridge after the commercials are over on tv! Usually getting together means lots of great food but not a lot of exercise. There will be six of us all going to do the 5k on 3 July and I'm really proud of us! It is a great NEW and HEALTHY tradition that I hope we continue in years to come! Thanks to ADBB and this amazing WOE I finally feel confident enough to do something like this!

Re: I've just signed up for a 5k!

Congrat's, Amy! I just signed up for my first 5K too, and it's the day after yours! I'll send you good thoughts if you'll send some my way the next day! Right now, I can only jog for about 10 minutes and then my heart's racing and lungs are exploding. So, I don't know how much of the race I'll actually be able to run, but I'm willing to give it a shot and see. It's not like I harbor any fantasy that I'm going to win or anything but maybe I'll see some improvement over the next couple weeks...
Good luck to you and your fam!

Michelle, I'll definitely be sending good thoughts your way! I'm pretty much the same with my jogging! I can do it for awhile and then I think I'm going to die so I have to take it down to walking! But that's ok, right?! It's a beginning and I'll be getting better and better! Even if I don't run the whole time during the 5k at least I'm giving it a shot which is way better than anything I would have done before!

SUPER FANTASTIC!! I still remember my first 5k .. it was so much fun ! Had you told me then that one day I would complete 26.2 miles, I'd never have believed it was possible! The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step and you are well on your way !

                  Have a wonderful time!

How's the training going, Amy? I'm doing pretty well, but with only 11 days left til the race, I still don't think I'll be able to jog the whole thing. But, I can definatly see an improvement, and that's what we're going for--isn't it? Good luck, and just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking about you!

Michelle, Thanks for checking in on me! Yeah, I don't know if I'll be able to jog the whole thing but my goal is to jog as much as I can and walk quickly for the rest of the time and just not stop! I think you are right- improvement is what we're going for! Working at this for now will maybe eventually get us to be able to do marathons like the AMAZING Betty! Good luck and we'll definitely have to check in with each other after our 5k's are over!

Betty, you inspire me so much! You are such an encouragment!! Thanks!

Amy, I'd be willing to bet that this 5k will inspire you to reach beyond what you never dreamed would be possible! I know that's how it went for me ... first goal ... run a mile without stopping (that took me MONTHS!), next goal, a real 5k road race...followed by many more 5ks, then, a 10k!!! Don't look now, but the next one was a 15k !!! Then a half marathon! ME? 13.1 miles? And then, the ultimate dream ... a full 26.2 mile marathon! Believe me, that's how it goes ... !! Next up for me: my 3rd marathon!!! Whoddaeverthunkthat?!

Keep on going, girlfriend! Its all about R F M (relentless forward motion!)
