  • Pulled Muscle

Well I've been exercising like a crazy person for two months now and I pulled a muscle right under my shoulder blade. I cannnot believe how painful it is, with spasms that hit at no predictable time.

Needless to say, no exercising for a bit. Have any of you had this happen and how long did it take to recover?

Sadly I think I know the cause and it was my own fault. I arrived late for jazzercise class last week and instead of doing all the preliminary warm ups I jumped right in. they were still stretching but I only got half the warm up everyone else did. The doctor told me it is not just warming up that is important it is how long you warm up for the type of activity you are engaging in.

I'm pretty unhappy about it cause the exercise has really been helping me and I can't wait to get back to it.

That has happenned to me....and now the bad news...I had to get a salt water needle in the muscle to loosen it up! I don't know if it will work itself out.....it was too painful for me!! Good luck, I feel your pain!

Though you are injured, you can still do cardio if you so choose. Minor setback but you'll work through it. God Bless, Joe

My standard treatment is ice on and off for the first 24 hrs, then hot moist heat several times a day after (it aids the circulation which promotes healing) and an anti inflammatory like Ibuprofen. But a deep tissue massage is best for me when my muscles are all knotted up. It hurts like crazy when they are working on it but I always feel 100% better the next day.

          Great advice!

          <puts on Jazzercise hat>

When you show up to my class late and you miss the opening isolation/warm up routine, here is what I want you to do...

          One of two things:

          1) Stand in the back of the class and march in place/stretch/warm up. After you have a solid 3-5 minutes of that in (typical length of an opening isolation routine), jump in.

          2) Take the next routine and do it with NO HOP. About half way through the routine, jump in and follow along- but for at least the first half of that routine, do it with No Hop.

I'm sorry you hurt yourself!! Please, take it easy, listen to your body, and don't rush yourself. You risk being hurt for longer. Once you're feeling better, start back slowly. Go to your classes, let your instructor know what happened and then follow along but don't do all the arm movements Take it slowly and be careful.

Hang in there - and if it doesn't start to get better in the next few days, go see your doctor. It's way better to be safe than sorry.

            Thanks for the many replies!

            Brook,
As a jszzercise instructor I know you can relate to what I did. I am hanging my head in shame cause I knew better, but I am paying the price. But I will be back in a few days and yes pretty much doing the way you say. For sure I will never miss warming up again!

Were you taking jazzercise all through your weight loss? It is the coolest thing I have ever done. We are retiring in about a year to an area where there is NO jazzercise, so my dream is to get good enough to train to teach and open a jazzercise there. I'm a long ways away and pretty bad at it right now LOL, but I love it immensely.

Ahh, don't be ashamed! Just be careful! Just remember if you do miss the warm-up, you have options

I found Jazzercise just last year, so no. I used mostly at-home exercise programs (Beach Body!) through my weight removal. Once I discovered Jazzercise, I was done-for. LOL I love it!

Work at it and for it if you want to be an instructor! It's so rewarding and so much fun. But......I'll warn ya....don't do it for the money. LOL!
