    Re: Classes at the Gym

Has anyone left a class because they just couldn't keep up & was embarrassed? I did that with the one class I tried (a step class at the YMCA). I felt so uncomfortable and just left. I should have stayed. Now I am nervous to try again, but I am thinking of joining a gym that has classes and I'd like to take advantage of them.

argh! your d***'ed if you do and d***'ed if you don't LOL. So that's my big thing, the looky-loo's. Being overweight has had such a toll on my confidence that I can't shake this thing about everyone staring at me. It's one of my goals for this week so I'm gonna have to do it!

            Re: Classes at the Gym

I bet you are going to be fine at the gym. It can be a little nerve racking (not sure of the spelling on that one) at first, but think of the rewards. I am telling myself this too! I have decided to join the gym and try a spinning class - and I have yet to get the membership at the gym! LOL. I have visited the gym 3 times to talk to the staff. It has made me feel good about my decision. Now I have to go!

Having a personal trainer will probably help a lot. Let me know how that goes.

              Re: Classes at the Gym

I was just writing about this in another thread.....the main thing to remember is that people in the gym are usually looking at THEMSELVES in the mirror, not thinking 'that woman is silly for trying'..... And everyone may not be overweight in your class, but many aren't coordianted or can't keep a beat, and they are just as afraid as you to show up in class.

We have a lady in one my classes who stands right in the front who is ALWAYS two steps behind what the instructor is doing. But she's still getting a workout and she's always there and she doesn't give up and it's inspiring.

You'll be surprised at how supportive people will be. We are all there for the same reason, no matter what stage we show up in. And no matter how many friends and family tell you how great you're shaping up, there's nothing better than the 'strangers' at your gym saying they can see you shrinking
              FINISH IT!

LOL, this will be me only I may not necessarily be in the front. Great points though, it's just the inspiration I needed! BTW, Awesome Abs!!!!

I am with you Jane. I like to be at the back when I am in a class. I am always slow on the pickup and hate the thought of goofing up everyone between the instructor and me. LOL
