  • Need help seriously

I am starting atkins once again today and I am very ready. I just need to know what is the best excercise routine. I can't afford a trainer and I can't get a gym membership right now so its all indoors and outdoors. I think I want to do my work out in the mornings and how many days do I need to do these.

Depends on how much you have to lose. If you have alot, I'd work that down some before hitting any abs. God Bless, Joe

I agree with Joee5. The best advise I have to offer is to start with walking. The Walk Away The Pounds series has been the best to get me started in exercise from the get go (I eventually bought a treadmill because I wanted something different to do especially when I needed a break from the tv ). Then find something you like to do and build from there.

          Hope that helps!

The crunches will tone you, but it won't remove the fat. Cardio is your best bet. 5 days a week. work up to at least 40 mins a day and don't mosey along. Walk Away the Pounds is a terrific way to start and because it has progressive programs you will continue to improve your workouts as you go. I have to say, I still hate getting up and stepping out the door some days, but once I start I always feel better and better (and great when I finish).

              Re: Need help seriously

Thank you everyone for your replies. I will definitely do the walking. I jog while I walk as well sometimes hopefully eventually I can jog the whole time I go someday but I will take it one day at a time. I just got back by the way and I walked for 45 minutes. I guess I will start waking up at 4am to go since I have to be gone by 545. I am a CNA so there isn't much to getting dressed lol. Thanks alot guys for your encouragement. Does everyone think walking before work is better than after?

                Re: Need help seriously

I have to change my times of exercise depending on the days, but I'm still an afternoon person when it comes to really enjoying my exercise. I think it all depends on what you like the most....and the weather maybe (lol). It's hotter than haddes here in afternoon during the summers, but I do my workouts indoors---in the AC .

Just a thought, if you're trying to add jogging in your walk, and depending on how you know your body and what you can and cannot do, maybe try the C25K running program. You can google the program that works in intervals of jogging and walking for 9 weeks. It's almost addicting And, you're more than welcome to join us in the exercise C25K postings. We're all at different stages of the program but it's fun to post and share.

                Play hard!

                    Re: Need help seriously

Um. While I believe cardio is non-negotiable. I also believe the same for resistance training. While you may not *see* the definition in your abs immediately, there's no reason not to be doing the crunches now, that way, as the fat shrinks, you'll be able to see the definition that already exists instead of waiting and then having to work on it later.

                        Re: Need help seriously

I would say it's better to start off your day with exercise than later. You are fresh and if you wait till later, this or that may happen where you wont get a chance to do your routine. Also you start your metabolism off fast so you'll burn throughout the day.(Fat that is). Good luck. God Bless, Joe

Actually, there is no metabolic benefit in working out earlier in the day versus later. The key factor in determining when is to do it at a time that you can make part of a routine, and when you have more energy (I usually workout when I get home from work - I'm just *not* a morning person).

                              ITA.

If you have to let something go, let the cardio go and keep the resistance training - but DO BOTH!

You don't need to spend any money at all.

Head to the library. There are a million and one DVD's, VHS tapes, and books that will give you all you need.

Resistance can be everything from two soup cans to two gallon milk jugs filled partially or completely with water. You don't have to spend a lot of money on equipment. You can buy a resistance tube for about $20 (don't buy the real cheapies. They pinch and break.) that you can adjust for whatever exercise you're doing.

Time of day doesn't matter. I prefer to workout shortly after my feet hit the floor. When you do it isn't the issue- just make sure you're doing it!!

Type of exercise doesn't really matter either, at least at first. Find something you like and something you can make part of your day to day routine. From there, you tweak it and make it work more for you
