  • Do you work out more than once a day?

Does anyone else work out more than once a day? I have found that my weight comes off easier/steadier if I take a 15-minute walk (about 1 mile) in the morning or early afternoon and then take another 15-minute walk in the late afternoon or evening. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this. And if I fit in 3 or 4 walks (1 hour total of exercising) then I have even more success with dropping weight. My DH told me I was imagining it. I don't think that is true. Any thoughts? I figure even if it is my imagination I don't care! I don't want to stop my progress so I am going to keep doing what works.

I try to do low impact exercise 2-3 times a day. I'll walk 45-60 minutes at a comfortable pace, ride my bike for 20 miles or so (15-18 mph) and then do some stretching or weight training (30 mins +/-).

    Yes, I'm retired.

    Nice!

I do workout more than once a day quite often, but I teach Jazzercise classes.

If you're having success doing what you're doing, then keep on doing it! I don't know that there's any actual scientific data that will back up your experience, but ..well.....who cares?!

You're revving up your metabolism several times a day and I can't see how that can be a bad thing. You're not over-doing it so there's no risk of over-training and that is something you have to be careful of if you're really hitting it- but you're not

Remember, working out more is NOT always better. It can be counter productive. Your body needs time to rest and rebuild.

Thanks so much for the input. At one point my DH tried to tell me I was over doing it for walking 45 minutes a day 4 days a week. I laughed at the time, but those kinds of semi-negative things seem to stay with me. Sometimes I get more discouragement rather than encouragement from those around me. Except for here of course!

Re: Do you work out more than once a day?

For a couple of weeks I was working out twice a day. I didn't really notice if it made a difference or not. I would walk for a mile in the morning and then I would do a 20 minutes Turbo Jam at night and those workouts included abs and push ups as well. I had to quit my two a days because I wasn't getting enough rest. My night workouts weren't until after I got home from work. By the time I was ready for bed after everything I had already missed out on 3 hours of sleep out of my 6 hrs. the baby lets me get. So it became a struggle for me. Now I workout once a day but my workouts are very intense. Hope that helps.

You can exercise too much, especially if you don't increase your calorie intact to balance out the expendature. I work out for cardio health and to help build muscle, not too lose weight directly. In Taubes book (Good Calories...) he has this as one of his 10 findings about nutrition:

              6. Consuming excess calories does not cause us to grow fatter, any more than it causes a child to grow taller. Expending more energy than we consume does not lead to long-term weight loss; it leads to hunger.
The excess calories would make a difference if they were carbs instead of fats/protien that don't store so readily. Hence the name of the book (-:

I was working out 2X/day, AM before work and PM when I got home. I felt great! I let life get in my way and stopped. I'm starting again and feel better once again.

Happy to hear you got back to your exercise routine qbu! The 6WEC got me back in the groove. I feel so much better physically and emotionally and my weight is moving again. I just have to stick to it!

Thanks for your post - it comes at a good time for me, too. I am doing more than one workout with all the Challenges lol. I am feeling better from it and it seems to make sense per Atkins since we are burning glucose from food and/or stored glycogen energy in muscles and the liver...either way before they get stored as fat.
