  • Walkies!

Well..... I know exercise is non-negotiable, but .... confession time... I hadn't done any. I'd planned to wait until I got down to 15 stones (210 lbs) which is pretty close now... so I'm running out of excuse time!!!

Years ago I had my own home gym and did the full works, but I've found it so hard to get motivated since putting on so much weight. Anyway today we came back from some shopping, and realised that we had left two letters which needed posting, in the kitchen. My hubby picked them up, but before he could say 'I'll go to the postbox,' I whipped them out of his hand and said 'I'll walk down the postbox!' He just stood and looked at me open mouthed, which is understandable, as I've spent the last 5 years avoiding any exercise as much as possible!

To be honest I surprised myself, as I hadn't been planning to do any exercise today - I just felt that I actually wanted to go for a walk, which I haven't felt for ages/ So he could get on with some phone calls he had to make, and I went for a lovely walk! It worked out about a mile to the postbox and back, but then I added a walk around the conservation area on the way back, which just about doubled that.

I'm so happy that I'm going to add two smilies!!

    Re: Walkies!

good for you getting out and walking! That's the best exercise and start to a healthy relationship with exercise. You'll be amazed at the amount of energy you will find, the inches that will decrease from your body, and you'll sleep really good at night. You might find that you're very tired at first, but keep going because your body's learning how to have this new relationship with exercise.

Yep, start easy and consistently. make it enjoyable. As you get fitter and stronger, you will want to test yourself more. One help is to buy a cheap pedometer so you can vary your route but still know you are going as far as you did last time. (When I started originally my goal was to go ten more steps each day until I got up to a couple of miles.)

Glad you got a pleasant surprise! Don't let your weight keep you from exercising. I weigh 231 and walk about 25 miles a week. I may be heavy but my body looks pretty darn fit for my size.

Yep - our local surgery did have pedometers they would hire a while ago, although I think they are quite cheap anyway, so will have to have a look. Much easier than counting your steps as you walk!

Just walked down the town to the shops and back today - not so far as Monday, but I had to get back for a certain time. Actually, that doesn't stop me from going out again later and doing a bit more - catching myself out with my excuses!!!

We have lots of lovely walks around here, so it really isn't a hardship - well, not today when the sun is shining. UK summer has arrived, but apparently it is due to be over by Saturday!!!!!

          Re: Walkies!

Walking is great exercise. For when you are kind of stuck inside there are walking videos that you can use. I like them. You do some marching on the spot and break that with some easy aerobic moves (like side step and knee lift etc).
Most people (including me) love the Walk Away the Pound videos.
