  • What I hate about Walking

I just got back from my nice long 10 block walk and you know there is something very wrong. I am walking full out, arms swaying, really pushing the envelope if you know what I mean and I look across the street and this Marine is just strolling along and passes me up and he's not even breaking a sweat. Okay so he's young right, and Im old but I think I am really pushing it here and he passes me without any effort at all.
So, but thats not the really bad thing. The weekend before last I decide that walking up to our castle is good exercise. Its about a 1500' climb up, 2.3 kilometer hike, a pretty steep hill. So I am walking up, sometimes I zigzag across the road to make the hill easier, and I have to take a couple of breaks to admire the view and catch my breath. I am dying here and suddenly 5, count them 5 Japanese folks pass me by, nod and say konichiwa and within a few seconds they are out of sight. Not one of them was under 80 years old and probably pushing 90 and they pass me like its nothing. :sarcasm :sarcasm :sarcasm

You rock for walking even if you think you are slow! At least you're out doing something! And you live near a castle?!

Lynne, think how far you have come with regard to walking speed and how you'll be able to increase the speed the fitter you get. Pretty soon you will be walking at 6mph like 2big does

          Don't feel bad :hug

I'm only 5' with very short legs. When I get on the treadmill and set the speed for 3.0, that's a very brisk pace for me. My daughter, who is 5'6" sets her speed for 3.5 or higher and she's just strolling.

Whatever challenges you is the only thing that is important. I don't try to keep up with anyone else.

You're doing great!!! I hope when I get my foot fixed, I can do much more! :nod
