      4 miles in.

Projected time for Indy is 4:30-4:45 or so. If it's cooler, probably closer to 4:30.

A couple of those miles today were for you..

Re: Cool Running for the Week of August 18th

Thanks, man ... only *you* can understand how much agony I am in sitting here unable to walk, let alone run.

Its been two weeks and I still have alot of pain. Yesterday I went to the doctor and he wants to see me actually BENDING the joint .. while I demonstrated the little bit I *can* do, he wasn't impressed at all. So today I get a call from Dynasplint (www.dynasplint.com) and at my next appt I will be fitted with a splint that will FORCEFULLY bend my joint .. I understand the rationale the doctor has ... his #1 goal is to have me running a QUALITY marathon next March and to get to that point, the joint MUST re-learn how to bend after 2 years of being unable to do it. True, my running speed has deteriorated as I've gone from a 9 minute mile to 11 minute plus ... which sucks, but ... I told him NOBODY wants to run pain-free as much as I do, to which he replied, THEN YA GOTTA GET THAT JOINT TO BEND....PERIOD.

So ... more pain and torture to come ... I guess its true what they say: things have to get worse before they can get better....

I've been crying all afternoon. It seems to dadgummed unfair to love anything as much as I do running and have this issue ... while others who hate running or refuse to run ... have no physical impairment like this.

My goal is pain-free running. But why does it have to be so painful to get to that point? As if the surgery wasn't bad enough .. it hurt like h*** and it still does. And I'm not the least bit encouraged.

        10 more weeks non-running.

Bone pain is the worst. Speaking from experience~~tibial osteotomy~~the pain will eventually ease up. Healing takes time & unfortunately patience. Retraining the joint sounds brutal but must be done. Good luck & may the wind soon be whipping through your hair!!

Ran the Crim 10 mile run in Flint,Michigan this morning. HOT and HUMID.
Finished with chip time around 1:42, 10:10 pace or so.

I have never sweat that much in my life. Feel out of sorts this afternoon.
No time to waste though. 20 miler first thing in the morning.

Great job, Rich. Do you have some form of electrolyte replacement ? I swear by Electromix that you can add a packet to a bottle of water. Its SALTY, which is what you need when you sweat profusely .. and trust me, around here, sweating happens walking to the mailbox ...

I ordered mine from amazon and it was very inexpensive ... you may want to check it out at Amazon.com: Emergen-C ElectroMIX Packets, 36-Count Box (Pack of 3): Grocery

It tastes okay, but most importantly, it works.

Re: Cool Running for the Week of August 18th

hey betty! i am not a "runner" now but i did enjoy it in my younger days!! someday i will get back to it. i only did about 5 miles at a time back then so nothing serious, still i did enjoy it. one of the surgeries i did have on my feet was having steel joints put in at the base of each big toe. it hurt like he**.....every second of every day. just being upright was painful. all i can say is "this too shall pass." it made me insane NOT to be able to be active. sounds like your doc is a good guy and he is interested in getting you on the running path asap...so hang in there. hopefully in the end it will all be worth it!

Re: Cool Running for the Week of August 18th

                  Thanks so much, sweetie !

You are so right; it does hurt like ****, all the time, and throbs intensively whenever its not elevated. I have to say there are a million times a day when I think "will it EVER get better?" Well, ir hopefully will, but definitely NOT SOON ENOUGH.

I'm not a patient person, nor do I play one on TV. It just seems so blasted unfair to finally find your ZEN, only to have your body let you down ...

                  2 weeks, 3 days down...9 weeks, 4 days to go ...

Y E S I most definitely have my "running day" circled on every calendar I own!!!!

Everytime we drive down my typical running route, I groan ... with despair ..... pity party extraordinaire !
