  • Questions about Scrunches

I started doing crunches last night because my belly is very flabby. I got through two sets of 25 but my belly started to hurt a little. Almost like I had a tummy ache. I just wondered if that was normal.

Next question: I did them on my bed. Does it matter where you do crunches?

Final question. I read somewhere that you have to breathe a certain way when doing crunches so that the muscles don't bulge out. Is this true?

So what are you do doing? Knees bent, lifting shoulders up from the ground (well bed in this case)?

I wouldn't think doing them on your bed would be a good idea, it is too soft of a surface and would not be good for your back, and it wouldn't be possible to get proper form. Is there a reason why you are doing them there? I would suggest the floor, with an exercise mat or blanket for a bit of cushioning.

Do a google search of 'proper form for crunches' or something similar, there are many sites that have video examples for you.

I agree with Sadie you need to do them on the floor - yoga mats are quite cheap now maybe worth getting one.

          Re: Questions about Scrunches

Actually i saw a workout routine that wanted you to do 50 crunches before you got out of bed in the morning. It will not harm you back and work just as good from what they say.

You must pull your muscles in when you do crunches, if you allow them to bump out then instead of a flat 6 pack you will have one that looks like a bulge. That is why with all core exercises they always say hold it in tight.

I do them in bed due to back pain. I will definately look into a yoga mat, that might help. Thank you all for your responses!
