  • What should I do about this?

So, I have no idea how I hurt this muscle, but it feels like it's in my quad and I can't quite figure the pain, but it hurts when I walk. I tried to jog it off at the gym and it only made it worst. My husband suggests that I should give the gym a break for a few days......
I'm so new to this and this I don't know how long to take off. I always feel so yucky when I haven't been to gym for a day, I don't know how it's going to make me feel to take "a few days" !

Jane, your priority should be to heal this injury, and if that means scaling back the exercise, in my opinion and experience, that is OK. I don't know what your injury is, but home remedies might include ice and/or heat, aspirin, etc.

If you are really concerned about this injury, or it seems to be lingering, you might want to talk to your doctor/chiropractor/health practitioner of choice.

I think one of the most important things we can do as new exercisers is to learn to listen to our bodies. That skill will help differentiate between discomfort (generally good, in my opinion) and pain (BAD!).

If it is a muscle injury then you should not exercise and you should take an anti-inflammatory like Aleeve or Advil. Although heat will feel good on it, you should try icing it. A bag of frozen peas makes a fabulous ice pack, and it is dirt cheap.

These are just my suggestions, please see a doctor if the pain does not improve within the next few days. Take care of yourself!
