  • Cool Running for the week of October 5, 2008

    Sunday:

2.5 mile jog/walk this morning followed by a 3+ mile bike ride this afternoon.

Well, its official ... I have signed up for my first post-surgery competition: a local 5k on October 25. Not much, but its COMPETITION and that's a good thing.

To think that 3 weeks ago I wasn't even walking....

It really *is* true: Running isn't just a hobby; its in the BLOOD and its surely in MINE. Even if I'm not fast; even if I'm not gifted ... just to be OUT THERE ... its a feeling that's beyond words.

I may wince with pain, but dadgummit, I will cross that finish line.

Many thanks to my good friend, RichF, who never ceases to inspire and motivate me. Thanks, buddy, you encourage me more than you know.

I will be so pulling for you in that marathon....

Nice job on the training Betty. Good luck on that 5K.

You inspire me. I can't seem to stay on track enough to EVER get to my goal weight. You on the other hand have BEEN THERE FOR YEARS. That's inspiration.

    6 miles in.

Thanks, Rich. That means alot coming from you, the prince of the pavement.....RUN, RICH, RUN!

This about so much more than weight loss. You've achieved what select few others can only dream of achieving ... you are healthy and strong .. weight on the scale can't hold a match to PHYSICAL FITNESS ... and you are a shining example of that, my friend!

I can't wait to read your race report! Oh and if you "happen" to see Peyton Manning in Indy, give him my regards, will you? I love me some Peyton!!!

I didn't walk today; I had to be at work an hour earlier today for a meeting. Strangely ironic, but today my foot is more swollen than it is when I push it to power walk or jog 2 or 3 miles. Go figure, huh?

Tomorrow I will be out there pushing it at 6:30AM, bank on it.

Wow, Rich, upper 30s at race time??? Quite a switch from Chicago last year, aye?

That's the worst part of marathon training .. you never can plan for the weather. Two years in a row at Disney on the same exact day in January: one year 39 degrees at the start, the next year, 80 degrees and 100% humidity at the start .... I MUCH PREFERRED THE 30s................26.2 miles with temps in the upper 80s and high humidity were DREADFUL. I've never seen people taken away by the hundreds in ambulances before......

Good luck, man !! You'll make us ALL proud!!!!

I'LL BE WAITING FOR THE RACE REPORT! and please, waive at Peyton for me!

Oh and today, I walked .2 miles as a warm up and then ran for 2.1 miles. Working my way up to the 3.1 mile mark in training for the 5k!

So Rich, what day IS the marathon? Sat or Sun?

As for me, I got exactly 2 hours of sleep last night and have been totally exhausted all day. I didn't walk/jog this morning, but I did make it through an 8 hour work day.

DH took me to the Roadhouse for a filet mignon after work (BLESS HIM!) and I felt so rejuvenated afterwards, I went for a 1 mile walk and a little jog.

Silly me, thinking I didn't have anything left today for exercise.

Thanks, sweetie! I'd be lying if I said I run pain-free, but I hope to say that EVENTUALLY!! Right now, I don't mind *wincing* a little as I go .. at least I am OUT THERE doing what I love the most!!!

So sweet of you to say that!!!

Re: Cool Running for the week of October 5, 2008

Marathon is a week from tomorrow, Saturday the 18th.
Just a 3 and 8 miler this weekend.

3 and 4 miles middle of next weeks is all before the big day.

Long range forecast shows a start temp in the mid 40s and dry in Indy.
I hope that forecast holds. It will be the coolest one in a while.

5.5 miles in today, mostly jogging, a little walking. Over all, the foot did pretty good. The first 3 miles were but after that, I think I beat it into submission !

Slowly but surely making a valiant comeback.

Rich, enjoy your taper today !
