  • Indianapolis Marathon Report

The short story: 26.2 miles in 4:33:42. A 2 minute and 5 second PR over my prior best (4:35:47 at Disney).

Not quite the 4:30 I had been looking for, but I'll take it.

The weather was perfect. 45 at the start. Close to 60 at the finish. Overcast to start, sunny at the finish. The course was mostly flat with a couple of decent hills in a park area around miles 10 to 12.

Ran the entire race at a consistent pace. No "WALL" was encountered anywhere along the way. Felt strong through those "WHAT AM I DOING?" miles (those are miles 21 through 24 when you realize that after running 20 miles, you still have 6.2 miles left and hence begin to question your motivation for being out there). In fact, ran my best mile of the race the last mile.

That was marathon number 7. Number 8 is seven short weeks away. Taking this week off. Next week starts a 3 week ramp up of miles followed by a 3 week taper. Running St. Jude's Memphis Marathon. I can hardly wait...

Rich, what can I say besides YOU ARE MY HERO?!

4:33 is an exceptional time! I have to admit, I couldn't wait for the post-race report .. I went to the Indy marathon site and looked you up! I was thrilled when I saw your finish time!!!!!!! WTG my marathon friend!

Only a true VETERAN marathoner could say they enjoyed the last mile ! Been done that, and I can tell you, my last mile was NOT my favorite ... it was pain pain pain throughout ... so I totally am in AWE of you!!!

          Rest up, you deserve it!

I can only HOPE I will be able to finish my March 1st marathon, let alone PR it! The foot is and I am supposed to start my training program next week ... yeah riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

          Tomorrow's less-than-stellar-goal: 3 miles.

I am oh oh oh so proud of you, my friend!

            Thanks everyone.

Betty, no relief on that foot yet?

Don't worry about any PR. In between Disney and Indy (2 PRs) I ran Madison... Just shy of 5 hours. Just wasn't my day. BUT, I am just as proud of that marathon as the others because I finished and stuck it out when things were definitely going against me.
