  • Curves?

I have just joined curves and was wondering if anyone else has had success doing curves. I've been working out, and do other workouts such as the treadmill, step aerobics. But, since I am paying $ now, I plan on going to curves exlusively. Anyone else have good things to say about curves?

My sister started going to curves about a year ago, she still goes and loves it but says its a really tough workout in whatever class thing she does. Definitely seems effective to me.

        ravenfan,

Hi! I am referred to as the Curves Natzi! I tell everyone you get out of Curves EXACTLY what you put into it! Work EVERY machine as hard as you can for the 30 seconds you are on it. The muscles you have worked should feel like limp noodles when you get off that machine. Remember the recovery stations are just that...... recovery stations. Try and keep your heart rate in your target area, so you are getting the most strength training possible. Work it and it works. I see alot of woman become very complacent on the machines and then complain that they are not getting the work out they want. Push yourself and make sure you stretch after!
any questions etc. feel free to pm me!

I LOVE Curves and agree with Bren - you get out of it what you put into it. It's the first time I have felt comfortable in a gym and I've been going since September 2004 which is about the longest I have kept up an exercise routine.

Plus, since I started Atkins I have more energy and enjoy it even more and find that I have been pushing myself even harder.

I did curves and i didnt really like it. it seems like everyone you looked at had great arms and great legs, but a gut! there weren't really any machines that REALLY worked on your abs. There was only the one that you tilted side to side and the one where you sat down, crossed your arms, held onto these bars, and turned. It really just seemed to focus on arms and legs and I didnt really need that. But i guess if you have a good stomach, but you have thunder thights, this may be the way to go!

I joined Curves a couple weeks ago and just did my 8th workout. I also combine it with treadmill work -- a couple miles in my target zone on the Curves days and longer time with some HIIT on the nonCurves days. I am liking Curves, although for some reason I prefer exercising alone at home. I also add some ab work at home and bought a weighted hula hoop for some fun waist work.

Since the machines create resistance, you do need to push yourself as hard as you can -- while maintaining proper form -- to have maximum results. That will get your heartrate up, so you'll use the recovery stations to maintain that heart rate, or lower it if it is too high. (After the squat machine, my heart rate is usually at 80% of max. Luckily the next machine is the shoulder press, which with the recovery station, helps to get it back into the target zone.)

I hope you enjoy your Curves experience.
