I get home most nights at midnight, and don't get to bed until 2:30 - 3 AM.... I was thinking about riding my stationary bike for half an hour or so... Think I can do this and recover enough for sleep in time? I know that they say exercise at bedtime will only keep people awake.... but all I currently do is play games or surf the net. I can't just hop in bed and go to sleep. I need some decompression time.

Why not give it a try and see how you react? End it with some calming yoga stretches maybe?
I like how exercise relaxes me (my mind) because I zone out of the normal stresses and concentrate on the moment.

Re: Working out VERY LATE at night?
I agree with Liv that it doesn't hurt to try.
But I would say I used to have an exercise class than finished at 10.30pm and when I tried to sleep and hr and a half later I never could. It is frustrating. It could have been because I was out at a class though, being at home unwinding with it might be ok.

Re: Working out VERY LATE at night?
My concern is that after my heart attack in 2007, I have suffered at times from insomnia..... but that time of the day is the time where I don't really have things to do.Originally posted by *Alexa* View PostI agree with Liv that it doesn't hurt to try.

Re: Working out VERY LATE at night?
I say give it a try. I work and am going back to school for a second teaching certification and I currently have classes until 10 PM and don't get home till 11... (not as late as you, but not normal gym time i suppose, haha) I always head over to the gym in my complex from 11:30 to 12:30 ish... I may be a wierdo but if I skip this routine I tend to have trouble sleeping... (plus I love that I'm all alone and can turn to whatever I want on the TV) So hey, give it a whirl, you'll know if it works for you or not. Good luck and happy biking!!

Re: Working out VERY LATE at night?
people say that if you have insomnia you don't go waiting on the bed for your sleep train to come. go do something you want to do. so if you feel like biking then go try it. and i agree with liv. so some stretching perhaps?
It just keep going down and up, down and up *SLAP* wake up!!!

Re: Working out VERY LATE at night?
I work nights and get home at 7 am. If I get up early enough in the afternoon I will workout before I go to work at 7pm, but if I don't I work out when I get home. I agree with Liv, I do Namaste Yoga on FitTv afterwards and I don't know if it is the Yoga or the lady's voice, but it definitely relaxes me and then I take a shower and go to bed and sleep like a baby. So you might try it and see how it goes.

Re: Working out VERY LATE at night?
HI Chuck,
Riding sta. bike at nite works for me, (around ten or eleven) then a good hot shower and I sleep like a baby, I find this helps with restless leg syndrom at night. so I say try it._________________________________________

Re: Working out VERY LATE at night?
I don't know if it is to late to ask questions on this thread or not, in my search this is what popped up for insomnia though. I am on day 8 of induction and feel great, except I can't sleep. I wake up 1,2ish,3ish and so on and by 7 am I have had it. I have a sore neck and shoulders, It's driving me mental. So last night I worked out for an hour before bed til I was physically exhausted and still couldn't sleep, my body was dead tierd, but my brain was rambling on and on. Anybody have this problem and if so what can you do to fix it? I don't drink caffiene at all. Help would be much appreciated.
