  • Too much exercise?

I was reading on a board something about exercising too much. I have tried searching for it again...of course I can't find it now.

Anyway, it went something like "if you exercise too much your body will break down the protein in your muscles and convert it to sugar."

I just want to know if this is, in fact, true. Thanks a lot

I don't know what's true and what's not but there is a debate about how much exercise one needs. It may be a bit different than the information in the BOOK so I am somewhat hesitant to post this link. But you asked....

It is for discussion only, not a testament as to the truth of the matter.

The chance this is the exact post you asked for is slim, indeed. This site merged with ModernForager recently, it may have been there?

Well, since the people on the biggest loser are exercising 8 hours a day and losing tons of wt consistently. I would say, yes, exercise makes a huge difference. Noone loses 6-14 lbs a week consistently week after week without exercising like a crazy person. I'm not recommending exercising like that though, as they have trainers and medical personell available for any unfortunate incidents.

I mean.. I took it as.. if your body is converting protein into sugar that it can stall you or knock you out of ketosis, even.

            Re: Too much exercise?

The short answer... no, that is not happening. If your body is in ketosis, it is fat that is broken down for energy. If you had a carbohydrate-based diet, then your body would break down carbs.

Unless you are starving yourself (in which case, indeed, you start breaking down protein, hence wasting away muscle mass... but this happens even without exercising) and not eating enough fat (~65% during induction), exercise will not cause you to stall or to get kicked out of ketosis.

i dont think so, only you will face fatigue and due to over training your muscle gains will stop. six pack abs

The problem is that when they stop exercising 8 hours a day, they put weight back on.

Why Exercise Is Not the Answer

There are many, many reasons to exercise daily. I'm not sure weight loss is one of them. It used to be simple; calories in vs. calories out. Atkins dieters know that counting calories isn't the whole truth behind nutrition.
