Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
    he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Try this thread and see if it helps, basically we were just discussing cycling. The answer really depends on if it's indoors or outdoors and what you want to accomplish.

      Are you talking about outside?

If anyone wants to get a cycling thread going, count me in. I love it! I think it's a fantastic exercise, especially for someone my age (4). I was never a runner and I don't see myself starting now. I think that biking is much easier on the joints ....... but not so good on the butt, in the beginning! lol

I've been doing it for a few years now and have only done 30 miles at a time, but I hope to improve this year. I would like to ride in the MS 150 this September. That's 75 miles a day for two days in a row. But, I'm just not sure I can do it.

Anyway, let us know if you decide to start and if you enjoy it.

I'm learning a lot about cycling as I train for this mini triathlon. Like, I had no idea that there are four components to pedalling revolution. I'm using my road/race bike indoors on a magnetic trainer until the weather is good to train outdoors. My friend who is also my trainer has me doing different exercises. For example, I'll do two minutes pedalling with just one leg focussing only on one of the aspects of the rotation, then change to another, etc. Some days I'll train for distance, other days for endurance. But no matter what, the important thing is work up to and maintain 90 revolutions per minute. No matter what gear you're in, you should always strive for 90 revolutions per minute. When I first started, I couldn't even do that, then I could maintain that for five minutes, then ten, etc. That's about where I am right now, I'll share more as I learn!

Thanks for that info Isabeau! I need all the help I can get. lol My gosh, a mini triathlon! You go woman!

My bf has one of those trainers that you can put your bike's rear wheel in. I didn't use it this winter though. So, I'm starting all over this spring. I think that I will buy myself a trainer this coming winter. I've seen them at a pretty reasonable price on eBay.

I've got a Fuji mountain bike and an old ten speed Schwin. What kind do you have? Maybe someday I'll get a nice expensive bike.

Keep posting about your training and any tips that you learn. When is the mini triathlon?

I was hoping to enter one on June 11th, however, I wrecked my knee and haven't been able to run at all in the last month, so realistically, I may look for one in the fall. I'm still not running, or even walking for that matter and seeing an awesome sports injury chiropractor. I wasn't even even able to cycle or swim for two weeks but am back at both. I'm really lucky to have an awesome friend (the woman who is my trainer) that sold me her triathlon race bike for 200 bucks, it's worth over $2,000.00 and it's only a year old, but you know, she needs a better one! She's also teaching me 'Total Immersion Swimming' which is totally amazing. I have never been a swimmer, although really comfortable in the water (I scuba dive) but I am totally loving this!
