In college I was always in shape and I have recently used Atkins to quickly drop some unwanted pounds.
Anyway, I figured that I would post this bit of advice for all of you who need free advice:
Cardiovascular exercise (such as running, walking, jogging, stair-climbing, or cycling) should be sustained (for at least 30 minutes if you can work yourself up to it).
Once you can do that, you will burn body fat no matter when you do it.
However for the maximum benefits of fat loss you should do your cardio first thing in the morning, before you eat anything.
By the way, the worst time to do cardio is at night - because you cannot take advantage of the after cardio effects of increased metabolism because as soon as you sleep your metabolism drops to the lowest levels of the day. If you workout earlier in the day (or morning) then you get the added benefit of having your metabolism higher for several hours after cardio.
Also, if you lift weights, or if you can't do cardio first thing in the morning, then the next best time is immediately after weight training.
So if you were wondering whether it is better to do cardio and then lift, the answer is no. It is better to lift and then do cardio for 30-45 minutes (get your heart rate up to 130-140 beats per minute to start).
Up to 300% more fat is burned when cardio is done first thing in the morning before you eat.
If you don’t believe me, do a simple search on Google – just type in “cardio best time fat†and read the websites that pop up. They will all corroborate what I am telling you.
Imagine what that means. It means your cardio workout can be 3 times as effective just by doing it as soon as you wake up.
Picture how much quicker you will drop that weight just by forcing yourself to do the same cardio workout, but at a different time than what you are doing now (yes you MUST do cardio in order to properly do Atkins).
In college when I worked out all the time I was a lean mean 175 lbs. Over the next 6 years sitting in front of a computer I grew to a 193 lbs.
I have been doing Atkins for 3 weeks and I am at 179 (yes, I lost 14 pounds) but I KNOW that I must do cardio, so I may as well do it in the morning when I get the most bang for my effort.
Hope that tips helps encourage you all!
