Re: exercise induction
Absolutely. This is a long term thing. Even if cardio did "stall" you (I usually find it helps the scale with me) you are in this for a long healthy life so why wait on starting to exercise?

Re: exercise induction
Exercise is mandatory on Atkins and you should choose a form of exercise you like and can stick to. Exercising heavier may cause a temporary increase in your weight, as your muscles are retaining water in order to recover. In time you might also gain a few pounds of muscle, which will occupy less volume than the same pounds of fat. Also remember that the purpose here is not losing weight, but losing inches (which is what exercise will usually help you achieve faster than diet alone), and "weight loss" is not the only principle behind Atkins---good health, disease prevention and weight maintenance are equally important.Originally posted by laura1986 View Postdo u think its a good idea to exercise in induction. i walk every day but i mean cardio and toning etc. because its stalls the weight loss??"Get action. Re: exercise induction
Overall, exercise is super important as Georgiana & China mentioned. Exercise is also not an option on Atkins.
That being said, my first week on Atkins I pushed myself to exercise (light walking on a treadmill), but I was so extremely weak, I had to stop. I had absolutely NO energy, so I couldn't do it.
I started again on the second week of induction (post-flu) and feel great. I work out about 2 hours every other day with no issues on extended induction.
Good luck!Last edited by SkinnyGirlInTransit; June 15, 2009, 12:50 PM.

Re: exercise induction
Exercise puts you in the Cycle:
You feel great because of the exercise.
Then you feel even better because of all your energy thanks to Atkins.
And finally you're in love with life because of the weight loss.
And then it all repeats. What I do:
Elliptical gym machine 1 hr Tue-Sun
At 320, switch to cycling on my Trek 500
2 filtered containers water/day
Daily salads/veggies
Goals:
Stop needing High Blood Pressure meds - DONE!
Workout in a XXXL shirt - DONE!
Workout in a XXL shirt
Workout in a XL shirt
270 on the scales

i know this is bad but i wanted to get my head fully fixed around the atkins lifestyle before adding other things that affect my diet.

Re: exercise induction
Some folks stay on Induction longer than the first two weeks. That is called Extended Induction. However, moving up to the Rungs of OWL from Induction generally does not change the rate of weight loss and it does teach you a lot about the foods that trigger you and what stalls you in your losses. So I advocate moving up.

Re: exercise induction
Glad to hear it. And if you do it regularly it will boost your energy, confidence, and alertness--not to mention the metabolism.

Re: exercise induction
I recommend you read the book. It helped me tremendously. Chapter 22: Exercise: It's Non-negotiable. Dr. Atkins goes on to say, "If you are not getting regular exercise, you aren't following the Atkins Nutritional Approach. It's that simple."
It is a really good chapter because it goes on to say exactly what constitutes exercise and it isn't as bad as you might think. It is harsh but true. Trust me, I am not one to talk because I am the laziest person in the universe, but I know that this will not work without the exercise!
149.8/no weigh/ 119

1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
