  • Dramatically improved my workout in 1 easy step

    I wore new shoes.

    For the past week, I've been REALLY exhausted after working out on the Elliptical machine for an hour. Plus my right foot started hurting, and would ache when I walked to the bathroom at night.

    So I tried tossing my 2005 purchased, worn old shoes and using my new $120 ones I bought for walking.

    WOW what a huge difference. I felt like going for a jog after my hour was up, and I increased my intensity a level (Difficulty 11 now for my last 20 minutes). For some reason, my mind didn't believe shoes were important since I was not actually in forward motion, but they are!
    What I do:
    Elliptical gym machine 1 hr Tue-Sun
    At 320, switch to cycling on my Trek 500
    2 filtered containers water/day
    Daily salads/veggies


    Goals:

    Stop needing High Blood Pressure meds - DONE!
    Workout in a XXXL shirt
    - DONE!
    Workout in a XXL shirt
    Workout in a XL shirt
    270 on the scales

    LOL I remember doing the same thing--both in the gym and with walking. I now look at good shoes as an investment and go through about 3-4 pairs a year. It's worth every cent not to have aches and pains when I work out. Good for you for figuring it out, John.

      Really, really good tip - I should do that. The ones I have are just not comfortable anymore. I thought it was because I was tired. Heh heh, maybe my shoes are old!

      1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
      what the rungs mean to me:
      rung 1 - more veggies
      rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
      rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
      rung 4 - berries, melon
      rung 5 - wine -
      rung 6 - beans, hummus
      rung 7 - other fruits
      rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
      rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
      Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
      (on to pre-maintenance)

        I really need a new pair of shoes too. Maybe I could shave a few minutes off my 6K?

          The shoes make a world of difference! I just bought a new pair today and Im hoping they help me with my trainer tonight since he is saying I have to make up for missing yesterday! Oh joy! haha Keep up the good work John, your doing great!

            Keep going with the exercise and new shoes you purchased you will be losing the lbs.
