  • Water Aerobics?

Anyone do water aerobics? Just curious how your experience was and whether you feel it helped with your weight loss and/or toning. I like swimming but have never done a class like this. I'm a little nervous about it - don't know what to expect.

    Re: Water Aerobics?

You will be shocked at what a good workout it is. I did my first water aerobics with a group of grey-haired ladies, thinking, this will be a walk in the park. I got in with a dry head, and halfway through the hour my forehead was broke out in a sweat.

The resistance ups the work, but it is so easy on the body. You might use foam dumbbells to add to the work for your arms. I can't make too many of the classes, wrong times of the day, but I routinely get in the pool with the foam weights and work out with them. You will do movements similar to skiing in the water, you will likely work your abs, yes! and it is good cardio, your heart right will rise for sure. Have fun, if you like the water, you will likely love it.

I haven't done any since starting Atkins, but I used to take them - I love the water! In terms of what to expect...its like doing and Aerobics class in the pool. It is very low impact (particularly the deep-water classes) and you don't get too sweaty My husband used to pooh-pooh the class, so I got him to come with me - I thought he was going to drown! He hasn't said a word about it since.

PS He now also does Yoga & Pilates with me
