  • Exercise causing water retention?

    Hi Gang,
I am noticing that when I do real heavy exercise ( 1200 cal burned in an hour / per my heart rate monitor ) the next day the scale is up by 2-3 pounds. If I take it easy on the exercise the day after I will drop thoses 2-3 pounds. I have watched this over and over. Anyone else experiance this? I chalk it up to muscle retaining water to repair after hard bike rides ect.

    Thanks
    Amy

    Re: Exercise causing water retention?

I exercise with weights, two days on, one day off (say Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday), and my weight will creep up on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then plummet on Thursday. The same applies for weight changes after heavy aerobic days. So I guess that you would be right in your diagnosis. You are slowly building up muscle mass, and the swings are water retention.
