  • Reassuarance and/or guidance, please...

I've been working out fairly regularly since March 13 or so. I went from doing literally nothing extra to 1-3 miles walking and 30-45 minutes of weight machines 5-6 times per week. I've upped my endurance considerably in that time. When I started, I was barely able to even walk a mile. Now that's no big deal.

My question is this. When I started I weighed about 279 (sigh). I'm at 267 now, one month later, but I've lost over 15 inches, which is a good thing, right? I'm down 2 inches in my waist and over 2 in my hips alone. I'm not complaining, but I'm beginning to get a wee bit frustrated. I cannot get below 267 no matter what. It's driving me insane. I keep reminding myself that the muscle building process will take time, but then I find it totally ridiculous that I would actually build any muscle to begin with, so I begin to doubt it at all.

How do you KNOW that you're building muscle? Is there a forumla that you use or do I need to go buy some calipers or what? This is a totally new concept to me. In the past when I lost using low carb, I lost about 1 pound a day, but I did very little extra exercise. I feel like I'm doing this the right way right now, but I want to make sure.

My carbs are between 20-25 most days. I had a horrible week where I was on vacation that we won't discuss. I drink only water and usually 100 oz per day (stops to take drink).

First of all, you should congratulate yourself on your loss of both pounds and inches, that is great progress. You definitely are building muscle that is alot of lifting and cardio that you are doing. You could have your body fat checked with calipers but I just keep a log of measurements. Using the body comp website you can keep track of where you lose or gain. http://www.mybodycomp.com/

While losing 1 pound a day may sound great you were most likely losing muscle mass in there with fat. Losing slower this way while building muscle you are doing much better for your body. Patience and hard work you'll get there. You have the hard work part down just don't let yourself get discouraged. Water intake is great, that is vital so keep it up. Try not to worry so much about how many pounds you are losing, as the inches will be what counts in the end for how you look. Hope i've answered your questions.

mybodycomp! That's the site I've been wracking my brain trying to remember!

Now I'm going to go depress myself and see what my measurements were this time last year when I was down to 250....but I wasn't working out. I'll just keep that in mind.

Patience and hard work you'll get there.
          FOR SURE!!

You're off to a great start...be patient and persistent. Don't give up, don't give in. Those are my strategies and they seem to work!

How many calories are you eating in a day? You may need to enter your daily food intake into fitday.com and make sure you are eating enough. Your fat/protein/carb ratio should be 65%, 30%, 5% respectively.

Use www.countcarbs.com and their tools link to figure out how many calories you need to support the exercise you are doing!

          KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
