  • Doing Cardio in a fasted state (as soon as you wake up)

    Yes it is controversial.

Here is an article on the topic that I found interesting, and I have been doing cardio as soon as I wake up and I am happy with the results.

I have a six week cardio workout plan and it also suggest that you drink one 8oz galss of water and then do the cardio and eat within 1 hour of finishing to jump start your metabolism. When I could I did it that way but have fallen back on later in the day9because of 1 over active 3 year old). I think it is probably better early because I know that at the end of my day I still must exercise and sometimes I dread it. If I could do it first thing in the a.m. I wouldn't have time to think about it. Thanks for the site.

Last summer, I got up at 4:30 a.m. to run 4.2 miles 3 days a week .. mainly to avoid the intense Florida summer sun and humidity .. worked well .. I had no problem running that far on an empty stomach and truthfully, I think I was more alert on my running days. Problem was, I work a very stressful job, so doing 8 hours of work after getting up that early took a serious toll on my stress level. I eventually quit getting up early, but you know what ... I miss it ..

I now am working part-time and running in the afternoons .. so far so good, but its not summer yet...........yikes! Not sure what the plan will be for the heat of this year!

      Great article. Thanks.

just one problem with that article. the info does not apply to Atkineers!

if you look it said burned more fat in the AM as opposed to later when in the fed state and compared carbohydrate burns and fatty acid burnsat that time. Atkins folk burn fat 24/7 as the primary fuel for that cardio so we will burn body fat when we workout whether it is AM or PM. If you have to workout in the evening then do it then. Me I love the BFL lifting in the AM and my cardio and HIIT then too but it is only cause I have to wait an hour after I take my meds to eat so heck i got to kill at least 60 min why not work out.

As the NIKE commercial said just do it and you will get a fat burn on Atkins!

Although in ketosis we do eat carbs. If doing cardio after eating during the day it may take 20-30 minutes before the carbs are burned out and you start burning fat.

Myself I like doing cardio in a fasted state in the morning and then weightlifing at night. But if you have a combination cardio/lifting session, I recommend lifting first. The extra carbs will help with the lifting and be burned out before you start your cardio exercising.

oh Tommy check your facts the stored in the muscle stuff is gone in under 3 min and the call goses out for the fatty acids which we hve been storing in our muscles at the beginning of the exericse or you hit the wall. IF an atkineer doesn't bonk they are fatburning period!

I agree. if you have to do both weight training and cardio during the same session, you get the most benefit from doing weight training first and then doing the cardio.

Also, when doing weights, do the large muscle groups before the small muscle groups (your back before biceps, your chest before triceps)
