Energy for a long cycle ride

I have noticed after cycling that the ketosticks turn dark purple even when I have been drinking lots and lots of water - so something must be happening!
Not seen any weight loss, so I hope its going into muscle building. Fitday estimates 800 + calories an hour for moderate cycling, but figures like that are notoriously innacurate.Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',

Do you understand how ketones are produced?
Many folk thikn the fat burning is making them but actually they are a great side step that keeps the fat burning going. Fatty acids undergo (alpha for odd numbered carbons and beta for even numbercoarbons) oxidation generating ATP to get to a final 2 carbon moleculd called acetyl Co A same one made in the carbohydrate protein energy break down of glucose/ At this stage everything is oxigen dependant for the final TCA energy generating process. when that system backs up just like when the pumbing in yout sewer drain line backs up and effects all the plumbing in the house so too does this 2 carbon step cause with no where to send those 2 carbons so the reaction sites handling the reaction that generated them in the oxidation backs up and then the next and next.
BUT the human body has a bypass system called ketones. they are actually a packaged transportation system for movign those 2 caebon molecules and some fat oxidation byporducts like aldehydes from the area where the jam up is occurring and moving them to other free muscle and body tissues that are currently not jammed up with the 2 carbon moleclues or low on oxygen like the heart. The human heart loves ketones as fuel more then glucose even. This would be like suddinglu being able to send your drain water to your neighbors unclogged pips so you could continue using the water in your sink or toilet. Pretty cool stuff uh?
So when you workout in fat buring mode you got lots of ketones floating around waiting to either be burned up for energy, exhaled as acetone, pooped out from those shed from your blood in your saliva, or peed out. Just think you are flushing body fat down the toilet when you are done exercising. See and those carb loaders are doing what making body fats when they keep jamming in more and more carbs as they ride. Still want to do it their way?by the book atkinseer
