  • HELP re. lose of muscle power when exercising

Again I find myself floundering about for the right place to ask a question. I think this is the place.

    I've always "exercised."

    I began Adkins ~ 3 weeks ago (?I don't keep records), and have lost 21 lbs. As I began the Atkins way, I continued my normal work out routines. Everything went well, until;

Last week I skied--plenty of work out there--and when I came home I continued with my normal exercise routine (which has variables built in). The first day was legs day, and I just didn't have the umph to do what was called for. I attributed it to the big change in leg use. Next day I took a break because I just didn't feel like working out. Today I worked out, if that is what it can be called. I normally do 12 reps, 3 sets for weight exercises. Today I could only do--and I do mean I could ONLY DO 8 reps.

I also noticed a marked lack of coordination when I was playing racket ball, and I couldn't move as quickly as I normally would to get the next shot.

I hope I've painted a reasonably good picture of what's happening with me. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. Is it Atkins? Can those of you who are experience Atkins exercisers give me insight on what may be happening?, AND, what I should do?

I think I can work it out by myself, but that will take a while and I don't want to flounder about until I get it right.

    I definitely need help.

IF this is not the right place for my questions, please direct me, and

    THANKS ALL

Are you eating enough? Usually when I feel a loss of energy I am not eating enough. Because your appetite is supressed on this WOE you need to make sure you eat enough calories.

That could be it, not eating enough. I usually don't get hungry, because I make sure I eat abut 5/6 times/day. However, you have a good point, one that I hadn't thought of. I'll make sure of eating enough. Thanks.

Are you drinking more than enough water?

You might consider moving to OWL, too.

I believe I am drinking enough water. I drink at least 106 oz/day.

I'll check out the possibility of doing OWL. Thanks.

            >>I drink at least 106 oz/day.>>

That's good ... you should add more for working out though.

Remember, you don't get to maintenance without going through OWL!

Re: HELP re. lose of muscle power when exercising

              Thanks again, all of you.

I've started eating more and I feel more energetic already. I drink 4 quarts/day of water (my arithmetic was a bit off when I said 106 oz), and an unmeasured amount during the time I am working out. My guess is that I drink about 16 oz. That's a total of about 132 oz./day. That sounds like a lot to me. What do y'all (I'm Texan) think?

I realize that what I'm going to say next is off subject, but it is part of my overall direction, so I'll just put it in anyway. I am changing my workout routine to include more dynamic tension in the trunk/core body, and putting more emphasis on the back.

Again, I thank you all for your help.

Sorry for the misspelling last time.

I forgot to say that I wonder if I am ready for for OWL, and I should also say that I have not yet eached my goal in weight loss. And now I'm wondering if my goal was short of where I should be when I've got where I'm going, so I'm thinking of lowering my target weight by ~6 lb.

I'm really new to this, and don't remember much about what "OWL" is, so I have to go back to the book again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction on this.

Moving to OWL isn't based on your weight loss goals.

You lose the bulk of your weight on OWL ... then move to premaintenance with 5-10 pounds to lose, and then you slide into maintenance.

If you wait until you lose all your weight, you've missed out on the point of OWL.

Glad you are feeling energy/strength again.

As Atkinsgal suggest, move to OWL. You will still be losing weight just maybe at a slower pace. Some ADBBers have actually stalled a little and had better losses on the first rung of OWL (adding 5g net carbs of veggies).
