My anxiety level is sky high!! I joined a running group and while they said they welcome beginners, I am not sure they understand that I am REALLY a beginner. I have had every thought of canceling. It seems like such a silly thing to have done this. I am twenty pounds over weight, really closer to 30. What if I get hurt? What if they tell me to go home? What if there was an "understood" minimum running time?

The only reason I signed on is because I have been dying to be able to run three miles a day. A goal I have had for years, to run a 5K. SO my friend (at this time I use that word loosely... ha ha) signed us up to do this. BUT SHE is already a runner.

    Someone stop me!! Help.
    149.8/no weigh/ 119

    1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
    rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
    rung 4 - berries, melon
    rung 5 - wine -
    rung 6 - beans, hummus
    rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
    Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
    (on to pre-maintenance)

What if you go run and your anxiety level doesn't reach anywhere near sky high anymore?

What if you run like he|| and those nearly 30 pounds of excess disappear?

    What if you don't cancel?

What if you're not considered just a beginner in a few weeks?

What if you reach that goal you've been "dying" to reach in running a 5k?

Yeah, ShannonK!!! What if you do all those wonderful things for yourself? What would be left on Earth for you to accomplish if you did THAT? Don't ya hate it when people answer your questions with questions?? Hehe! Me too but sometimes it answers the question! You'll love it. You'll be hooked and it'll pay ya back! Go for it!!!

      Re: Running Group

Ever, you do know I love you, don't you girl? You are always there for me even when it is out of your time zone. How do you do it?

Well, I did go to my running group and it was FANTASTIC! I was definitely the slowest one there, but as it turns out, they are wonderful people and when everyone came back for me so we could finish "together" as a "team", I almost cried. Of course, I am so sore today that I cannot even think about doing my "homework" which is to run two more times on my own. At least, short runs. Ugh. Lots of ibuprofen.

But hey! I am super psyched and you know, Kind of proud of myself!!!

        Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay for you!!!!!!!

I'm so proud of you!! You're going to love it! After you get out there enough times, you'll CRAVE it and detest anything that attempts to keep you from it! Keep chasin' goal, girl!! You're gonna catch it! Great job!

Oh, and I promise your body WILL feel better soon. Give it time and you'll feel so strong instead of so defeated and in pain!

          Hi Shannon,
When I joined several classes at my club last August, I was the oldest and biggest person there, and I felt very nervous. They all welcomed me and gave me great support, and within a few weeks, I was able to keep up.
My absolute favorite is Zumba class. Now, I welcome the newbies when they join, and try to make them feel comfortable!
