  • stationary bike question

    hi everyone!
First time posting on the exercise forum. I've been doing my stationary bike 30 min a day after work for the past 3 weeks in front of the TV! It's great, easy and I broke through my plateau and have lost a total of 25 pounds so far in 2 months!
My question is I'm starting to experience back pain on the bike after 10 min. I can't really change any settings on the bike as it's a stand-up and the seat moves, but that's all. Does anybody know any good back exercises or could it possibly be my whole core section ie. stomach, sides... How about posture?

    Love Danielle

Hmm. well if it gets bad go to a doc, but try to strech before lay on your back lift your arms all the way up and push your feet as far down as they can go, sit u p and spread your legs into a V shape and go down a far as you can, i dont really have any other advice then that, but maybe try sitting differently like if you sloch a lot try sitting straigher and maybe take an ibuprphin before you do it like 20-30 min beofre good luck and your doing great

I have two herniated disks in my lower back. Doing a good abs rountine has definetly helped me and I feel good as new now.

Another suggestion is this, try breaking up your exercise period. If 30 minutes on the bike is to long for your back break it up to 2 or 3 sessions. 2 - 15 minute sessions will actually burn more calories then one 30 minute session.

I would think any core strengthening workouts would be beneficial. I'm really into my new exercise ball these days. Pilates and yoga work well too.

I agree with breaking up the session into smaller time increments and also about the exercise ball! I absolutely love mine and its done wonders for my running form ... strengthening those core muscles REALLY helps alot!
