Re: The power of the Hula Hoop....

I do and it's awesome. I don't do it for exercise really... just for fun.

I never was able to keep a hoop up
You might find it easier using a weighted hula hoop. The weights make it rotate slower, so it's easier to keep it up.

Also, the larger the hoop, the easier it is to use it (it's slower).

Thanks for the hints G, I'll look for a larger weighted one while I'm in Redding

I have done the hula on the wii, but thought it might be fun to do it for real! Once I perfect the hoop, Im going to look into getting a professional one for fitness!

Re: The power of the Hula Hoop....

Does doing a hula hoop really help with your stomach? I'm just curious, I have a lot of weight to lose and the more I lose the more loose skin a have. And I couldn't even dream of doing a sit up or crunches at this point. I'm a beginner!! So what do you think???

Re: The power of the Hula Hoop....

Exercising with a hula hoop will work primarily the abs and obliques... and it's good cardio, too.

If you are just starting, I recommend starting slow. If you're a beginner, 10 minutes with an unweighted hula hoop are probably enough to make your abs/obliques sore the next day.

Re: The power of the Hula Hoop....

I had a cesarean with my son...and find that although I've been losing, I wonder if the belly is excess skin and the only way to rid of it is through surgery! This might actually be the case for situations like mine, and also others who have lost excessive amounts of weight. But...anything to tighten the abs and make them stronger I will do...surgery is out of the question with me because its just too darn expensive! But if I find new ways to tighten the abs...I'll do it
I'm praying to win the lottery one day lol
                    Good luck

Re: The power of the Hula Hoop....

So it really will help to strengthen those muscles? I do worry about the loose skin but for now I am concentrating on losing the weight and praying that most of the skin shrinks back down as I lose. I probably couldn't afford the surgery either. But I don't want it to look like I still have a huge fat roll like it does now! lol I so hope most of it goes away!! So is the hula hoop probably my best bet right now to work those stomach muscles? Or do you suggest something else? And will doing the eliptical help tone my upper arms?

Re: The power of the Hula Hoop....

I decided to try the hula hoop because it is fun, and doesn't feel like "working out" to me! And yes it absolutely will help to strengthen your ab muscles
I also do a 10 min ab video that came with the Slim in Six series. You can get it on youtube if ya want to check it out...but beware it is KILLER!!! lmao
For your arms..the elliptical will help...but you should probably also just do arm raises and curls (you can use a can of veggies or soup) if you don't want to buy weights!
