  • Cool Running for the last week of April, 2005

Good morning everyone! :wave Welcome to the last full week of April .. one more week to meet those monthly goals! Come on, give it your best shot!!

I plan an 8 miler today with DD around noon .. If all goes according to plan, I should top 140 miles for this month! WOOHOO!

Time to check into getting new shoes .. I now have 2 purple toenails, so I know that concrete is inflicting a beating on my toes ... I got a really good deal on my last pair through onlineshoes.com .. free shipping and no tax! Check them out next time you're in the market for a new pair!

Will check back later after my run! Have a terrific running week!

So far a two mile WATP. Might squeeze in another this evening, but I have commitments until about 6 or so. I am happy to at least have gotten in the 2 miler today. I got my new shoes. A pair of Brooks addictions. They definitely make me walk differently. So far my only complaint is that my toes seem to go a bit numb in them but they are definitely not too small It may be that the arch support is pushing the top of my foot into the top of the shoe cutting off the blood supply a bit( I have had this happen before on several of my high arch shoes). Once I break them in a bit more is should be good. I am just happy to have the foot pain gone. :joy

2 miles run/walk, with the walk breaks getting shorter and fewer. I want to get it down to just one break before I move!

I am still not running as of yet hopefully tomorrow I will give it a good go and see how I do. This being sick sure has taken the life right out of me plus I am mid cycle and I always get tired about 10 days before TOM I hate this time. I went rollerblading for 2.5 hours yesterday it was about 1 hour 40 minutes without the breaks I was so tired and sore by the time I was done I could have just fell over the last little bit before I got to my truck. I am doing weights today later. I have to take my kids to dance and this and that so later will ahve to do. Hope you like the new pics These are 6 weeks of exercising on BFL so I am pretty impressed with how much my body has changed in 6 weeks. WOOHOOO for exercise everyone.

Susan, I'm thrilled that your foot pain is gone!! YAY!! :hug Esther, you're doing fabulous!! WOWZER, the progress you've made is astounding!! Sarah, hon, I can't get over your pics!! The difference is amazing!! Keep at it, girlie!!

Just finished 8 miles for today. First 4 I went slow and kept the heartrate about 60-70%. I made the turnaround in 53:40, not fast, but just okay. So then I cranked it up to see if I could finish the last 4 in 50 minutes or under which I did! YAY ME! Sweatin.... :yikes you can't believe it!! But feeling might-TEE-fine!! Burned 645 cals, 15% from fat. Cool beans.

Yes, it does pay to go slower for a longer period of time if you really want to burn fat. True, you won't burn as many calories, but its good to vary your speed to keep your body guessing!

          Great work everyone!!

I did yoga this morning. Ugh, Wai Lana kicked my butt. I feel it in my abs though so that makes me happy. I love yoga. However, I never thought I would like cardio so much. i always am thinking about going for a walk or dancing or something. I know they say you shoudl do resistance one day and cardio the next but is it really so bad to do cardio everyday?

Susan, I so want to get into yoga. I think with a high stress job like mine, I could really benefit from it.

No, its not bad to do cardio everyday .. unless you're really racking up the miles .. then you need some time for the muscles to recover, but a moderate amount of cardio a day can't hurt! Just don't overdo it and end up reinjuring that foot!

I sucks. I have been exercising still but, I can't seem to get my but back into running it's like I have dwindled away and can't get back on the running wagon. I had too many days off. I know I am making excuses and this is from me the exercise freak. I have been rollerblading and doing weights still all the things I need to do but, I know I need to add the running again to realy get the inches rolling again. What the heck is wron g with me. I know I need to do it why can't I just get my A$$ in gear and jump on my treadmill.

I think I will bring my treadmill upstairs so I have to look at it then I will feel guilty about my buddy just sitting there. That is what I will do cause my body need this to get to where I want to be.

I am also totally lacking in energy it's like I could sleep and fall over. I thik I will get my thyroid tested to see where I am at. Hopefully it's ok who knows maybe I need it lowered. I'm not sure but, I sure don't feel so well and my energy level really sucks and I just can't seem to bring it up no matter what I do.

                    HELP!!!!

I'm still chompin' at the bit to join you guys. I'm having another gait analysis done tomorrow then the molds taken for new athletic orthotics! As soon as they're in, I have the green light to start running again! (Still doing BFL lifting program, swimming 2-3 times a week, cycling 10K twice a week, 30 minute stability ball workout 2-3 times per week and a session of either yoga or pilates. But I miss running!!!)

You guys are doing awesome. See you all soon!

Sarah - if you can't get yourself going enough to run on the treadmill, ban yourself from running on it for a few days and walk on it for 5 mins instead. I bet that after a few days you'll be itching to run again! I get like that loads of times and I tend to deal with it by putting cross-trainers or sandals on (NOT running shoes) and going out for a little walk. Of course, I ended up running my first mile in sandals...

Betty - I'm concerned about your purple toenails. I'm sure I read somewhere that your feet expand lengthways as well as widthways when you run and that you should always get a pair of running shoes a size larger than you normally wear to try to stop your nails bumping the ends of the shoes and damaging the nail beds. Also it's supposed to help to cut the nails pretty short so they don't stick out at all. Not sure where I read it 'cos my books are 1500 miles away...

2 miles for me this morning, with only 2 walk breaks :yes

Typical April weather - brilliant sunshine at first so I went out in just a t-shirt, then a rain shower, then more sunshine and then a hailstorm. All in half an hour!

Thanks for the tips, Esther .. yes, I am already wearing a size bigger running shoe, but probably need to trim back the nails a bit today, so I will do that ... :yikes

I ordered another pair of shoes from the 'net, but they won't be shipped for 8 more days!! Special order! :anger :anger So I gotta make these old ones last another couple of weeks ... That's roughly 60-75 miles... oh man, I hope they last that long!

8 miler planned this afternoon ... will check back soon! Isabeau, can't wait for you to join the running fun!! You're doing fabulous with all the other exercise though!! WOWZER!!

Sarah, get on that treadmill!!! COME ON!!! You are our role model here!!!

YA I know I am Not slacking still working hard just not running so there is no need to get on my but except to run again. I am still exercising 4 days per week so you should all be proud I didn't just quit NEVER NEVER. I am getting thyroid tests done today cause I feel like I have a lump in my throat and my ears are crackling feel like I need to pop them all the time. I am really thinking my thyroid is whacky and Betty knows how that makes a person feel if it's low which I think it is right now. RRR. All my syptoms right now are magnified and I am finding I want to sleep for 12 hours at night so something is not right sao I need to get to the lab here this morning and get this looked after. I also have to get my B12 shot and hopefully with Gods help I will feel 100X better. Keep on keepin on I am still here with you an I will get on the treaadmill and walk cause I am so freaken tired to run it's not even funny. I hate my thyroid it gets in the way of things but, I'll show it.

                              LOL
