  • Exercising and not losing

    Hello all,
I am new to this board but was looking to find some folks who have knowledge in this area and I think I found them.

So, my problem or maybe it's not and I think it is..I've only been dieting/exercising since March 28th. I am not doing the induction but very close to it with low carb eating. More like the 2-3rd phase. The induction is just very difficult for me but I do very well low carbing otherwise. I started doing the Leslie Sansone walk aerobic dvd's and doing the 3 mile one 4-5 days a week. I also do 12 minutes of abs 4-5 times also weekly. The walk aerobics use hand weights for 1 of the 3 miles. I was not active before this. The first week I lost 6 pounds then a couple more a few days later...and then gained a couple back and now I don't budge from that. Even though I'm exercising and eating low carbs. I've been told to diet and not exercise because you gaiin weight because of the build up of muscle. I'm frustrated and need to know if this has happened to others and if you finally started losing again at a point and if so , when???? I have lost a few inches in all but thats it. I started at 180 lbs.

So please help. I'm ready to go ask my doctor for pills! I hate this that I'm trying and not getting anywhere.

congrats on geting your exercie started. It is very very natural to have a post induction scale weight loss hesitation period even on other weight loss plans this occurs. this is when many mnay folk say my diet has stopped working and give up. Very complicated biochem reactions are going on and your body is morphing losing fats adding lean tissues and fluids but the scale only sees the total body mass's effect from gravity. Yes you will be adding some muscle mass to your frame but that muscle mass will be burning up fat mass all day long so you want it.Make friends with your tapemeaure and se the inches of body fat melting off yoiu. your cloths should be telling you you are losing fat to.

There are other live efects too that efect scale weight loss like TOM so don't let that number effect hopw you feel about yourself.

All that being said You might have your low carb level too high for your metabolic rate based on your gens. try cutting down your carbs 5 net for a week and see what happens.

You are eating your Atkins in the right ketogenic ratio of 6o-65% fats 30% proteins and 10-5% carbs right? Atkins uses dietary fats to keep the system primed for burning your body fats for fuel when the dietary foods are used up. Eating it too high protein or too low fat allows your body to shut off the fat burning system while burning off the other fuels thus losing your weight loss too.

    happy low carbing

You made me feel better. Ok, I'll pay more attention to the inches. I guess I'm inpatient. I want it gone now. Don't we all.

You said "You are eating your Atkins in the right ketogenic ratio of 6o-65% fats 30% proteins and 10-5% carbs right?"

I think so. I basically eat meat, chicken with a salad or veg for dinners. 3 or 4 eggs in the morning (omlette or fried in butter) and salad for lunch usually or nothing, depends on the time I have. I do eat a bit of fruit and I am going to eat more grapefruit for breakfast (alternate with the eggs). I add cheese to melt on chicken and omlettes. I am going to make hot wings tonight! Love those.

I pretty much eat this way each day. Not very exciting. It seems like the fat ratio is high? What kinds of things do you eat in the fat category? I will cut the veges down some. I don't eat bread or pasta, potatoes or rice. No sugar and I use splenda for coffee and iced tea.

It sounds like maybe I'm not eating enough fat? Is this correct?

Thank you very much for your input!

Just about everybody wants if gone yesterday. Inductions rapid weight loss is the catch 22 you need to see the quick results to know Atkins works but it spoils you for the rest of the program comparing your weekly loss to those induction weekly losses.

most of us use the free online site www.fitday.com to track our foods if you need help setting up your account you can check the FAQ section topic and it will walk you thourh it.

I use olive oil, flax seeds, fatty cuts of meat, nuts, and other OWL fatty foods.

the fruit is something you want to watch as it is a rung 7 food and not an early addition vegies are the big important low carb foods you want to be eating check out the book chapter 11 and the stickie in the 14 day the FAQ or the extended indution to see all the veggies you can be choosing from. read the OWL stickies and chapter 14 so you know what order you want to be adding more carb food sources into your Atkins.

whoever told tou to diet and NOT exercise gave you some bad advice. There is no question that you need to exercise also to opimize your results.

Don't worry about the weight of muscle. The only reason that is important to know is if you are not losing weight, it can be because you are losing fat and gaining muscle.

Weight in and of itself is useless. If you are a slave to the scale, then you really should buy some skin cailipers and learn your body fat %. Then you will see if you are losing fat or not.

By the way, if you have more muscle, you will actually burn more fat because it speeds up your metabolism when you add muscle.

trust me, you will not get big and bulky. it takes years of hard work for bodybuilders to look that way.
