LOL doid you also see she referred us to Bill Philips Body for Life book too. In it he stresses not eating before a workout so you can burn fat!
Since you are already in fat burning mode during the night you can easily rehydrate as she suggested and then go write to working out without eating. your body will continue to pull fat from your fat cells for energy.

i've never read body for life so i'm unfamiliar with its recommendations, but what concerned me that post was saying that exercising on empty stomach promotes both maximum fat burning and maximum lean mucle burning. personally building lean muscle is more important to me then optimal fat burning. so i'm thinking that it should still do my cardio as early as possible to take advantage of the after burn efect while making sure that i have eaten some protien before hand so as to limit lean muscle mass loss.

Did you also know that when every single person in the worlk wakes up they have been in the fat burning mode for hours so I guess you shouldn't sleep either it you don't want to burn muscles accordoing to the info you just gained from Go ASk Alice
DId you know all protein stored in muscles and organs is stored as free pool amino acids and isn't technically part of the tissue structue much as fat isn't part of the fat cell structure use depositied inside the container?
DId you know the human body uses organ proteins before it uses muscle tissue proteins and most humans have a 2-3 day supply of proteins in their organs?
Did you also know in order to grow lean muscle tissue degradation of some of those amino acids must take place in orger to get it to the form that activates the enzymes at the muscle building sites?
DId you also know Atkins has a 30% protein intake to supply us with more then enough protein to meet our body needs. the USDA plan is only 10% protein and that is what Go ask Alice answers are based on?
the amino acids from the proteins are used as sugars when degraded for energy production in the liver so proteins use insulin and fats use glucagon when processed and burned for fuel which exist in a negative feedback loop.
Once the phosphogren bonds are all broken when muscles exercise and the stored muscle glycogen is used up inside of 3 minutes the human body has already responded to the chemicals being released from the muscles and is rushing fatty acids to the muscles mitochondria for burning in the alpha and beta oxidation systems to make more ATP. We who have been working out eating Atkins have already increased our muscle stores of fatty acids and are already in the fat burning mode wheile those carbers are still trying to get them reacted.
But you can do whatever makes you happy. Me I'll follow Dr Atkins and never load with carbs to workout in the sugar state. My Atkins meals will keep me filled up with plenty of protein to grow muscles too.by the book atkinseer

you seem very knowlegable on the subject 2big but unfortunately most of what you just wrote was beyond by comprehension. frankly i'd just like to know if drinking a low carb protien shake 30 mins before my morning work out would help preserve muscle mass. as understand it the advantage of working out in the morning is from the after burn effect.

I can do weight training on an empty stomach, but I don't feel good doing cardio on one. I feel kinda nauseous (before running or cycling). I also can't eat right before either for those cardio exercises. It has to be at least 45 minutes before. Like ttdriver suggests, listen to your own body.

if you are eating Atkins then you don't need to immediately eat before nor after a workout in order to preserve total muscle mass or even to build it cause you have 300% of the protein in your diet that those high carb folk do. Just eat your noemal Atkins.
I added 19 pounds of muscle while I lost my weight according to the changes in my dunk tank measures. and 6 of those muscle pounds were acheive with less then 15 pounds to lose.by the book atkinseer

I think it comes down to how your body preformes either way. I can't do either on an empty stomach I just don't get as good of a workout and my energy lags so I eat 1 and a half hours before I exercise and I feel Great but, it's all up to personal preferance I think.
