  • Exercise and Atkins

I posted an intro elsewhere, but here's a little about me...

Been on Atkins for 11 weeks now with no cheating.

Due to weight fluctuations, I don't have exact numbers, but my starting weight was between 224 - 230 and is currently between 206 - 210. I'm a 42 year old female and I'm 5' 10". I don't have an exact goal weight, although 140 - 150 sounds good. I really just want to look good and feel good. I guess my height has helped hide a lot of those pounds, but I've always known they were there and I'm ready for them to be gone!

I keep my net carbs between 20 - 30 grams a day. I work out with a personal trainer 3 days a week doing functional training, and do cardio 5 - 6 days a week, mostly using the elliptical, sometimes the bike and every now and then the treadmill.

I know I have lost inches, but my trainer won't measure me for another week or so, so I don't know how many. However, and I know we should ignore the scale, but the scale hasn't moved in several weeks. I know I am gaining muscle mass and it weighs more, but what I'm wondering is, if there is anyone else who experienced a similar situation, and if you can give me an idea of when your weight started going down again.

I know we're all individuals, but I guess I'm just looking for generalities for comparisons. I also know we shouldn't let the scale affect us, and I'm not discouraged, but I'm one of those people that analyzes situations and wonders about the why's and when's, etc... ensive

    Thanks for any insights!

      You're doing great!!

Remember, above all, that your body loses weight in its own time and way ... Do the basics; follow the plan as written, keep exercising, taking your supplements, drinking your water, eating your veggies and follow the 65% fat/30% protein/5% carbs ratio everyday.

Don't obsess with the scale .. go by how your clothes fit and how you feel. Scales can be deceptive, but clothes don't lie!!

      KEEP AT IT!

I agree with everything that ttdriver posted.

I went through a period last summer where I started exercising a lot more and the scales wouldn't budge. I made the mistake of not taking measurements before hand.

Plus I had entered a weight loss challenge and everyone else was doing so well, but I couldn't lose a pound! I didn't pay attention to the fact that my clothes were getting more loose all the time.

I eventually became so discouraged that I started cheating on my WOE or maybe I used it as an excuse to start cheating. Once I had started cheating, it was a slippery slope and I started gaining weight back! Anyway, don't let that happen to you. Just hang in there and stay the course. Weight scales are evil at this point and are best put away until later.

I know it's hard but have patience. :yes

the part about the scale is partially right. If you only know your weight - that is useless. From the sounds of it, your trainer may be able to take measurements and hopefully will be telling you your lean body mass and body fat percentage.

          THAT is what is important.

Weight can stay the same if you are losing fat. trust me, as long as you lose fat, you will look thinner and chances are you are staying the same weight because you are gaining muscle mass (which burns more fat!)

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I've just never been this active before, and I'm really curious about the changes in my body, and what I might expect as time goes on.

I guess I should have written my measurements down when my trainer did them, but it didn't even occur to me. She says she'll let me know when it's time to measure again. I think she's just trying to torture me. :nod LOL!

I may have to take my scale out and run over it a few times with my van.... might actually be therapeutic.

            :joy

            Thanks again,
