  • Pilates Success Anyone ?

I have a pilates tape and I have used it in the past but not consistently to actually see results.

However, my plan is to start using it consistently beginning NOW !

Has anyone on the board here had success with Pilates ? and if so, how soon were you able to see results from your workout ?

Just what IS Pilates? I've seen tapes at the store but haven't met anyone who does it or really knows what it is. Would it be good for beginners? Is it high-impact? Low-impact? I'm clueless and looking for a way to exercise....

Pilates is an exercise method based on the work of Joseph Pilates. Its focus is on strengthening the "powerhouse" (abs and buttocks) to execute the exercises which are designed to increase flexibility, strengthen muscles and improve posture. The method involves concentration and the coordination of breath and movement, thereby helping to balance mind and body.

I have a "Pilates for Dummies"dvd that I haven't tried yet. But it seems a lot like yoga to me.

Yes definitely pilates works. You not only feel sore after a good work-out and when you up the intensity, you also can see you muscles toning up. Sure it isn't cardio and it's not high intensity and you can't really lose fat from it, but if you do it properly, you get your heart rate up and really improve muscle strength ESPECIALLY around your back and bum.

              Hi,

I've was doing pilates for quite awhile and loved it! It's amazing how quickly you gain strength in your core area.
Personally, it's more like calesthenics...just very exact, precise movements.

Humm, I'm going to have to start doing pilates again....
