I hope I'm allowed to post general health stuff here. I have what the doctor's say is infected hair follicles, but to me, just looks like tiny zits on my skin, on my back, neck, shoulders and buttocks mostly, though I do have a few here and there elsewhere. I've been on antibiotics for months with no real help. I had bad skin as a child, but only ever on my face. It's not bacterial, they checked for that. Has anyone ever had any problem like this or know someone who has? I've been to the dermatologist over and over, my regular doctor over and over...

Re: Have you ever had this problem?
You post anything you want to here, this is what its for.
It quite common in men, especially with curley hair. Its like little ingrown hairs, painful and not fun. I don't know what to suggest for it but I know that wearing thigh clothes aggrevates it at alot.
I know there is a cream that you can buy for it, but I don't know if it works.

Re: Have you ever had this problem?
yep what Lynne said.
Are you using a new lotion? there is a fancy name for the term but basically you can actually clog them, the pores and hair follicles, with the lotion and the outbreak is just like tiny white heads all over as the stuff that is supposed to ooze out can't.by the book atkinseer

Re: Have you ever had this problem?
Thank you, I'll search around for something! I haven't even been using lotion much, so I don't think it's that.

Re: Have you ever had this problem?
I'm going to check that out too, we use the same brand of soap all the time because of psoriasis problems with other members of the family, but maybe the new scent is what set it off and now it just won't go away, though I've gone back to using the plain one.

Re: Have you ever had this problem?
Check out WebMD cause I know they list the name of the cream. Did you doctor not prescribe anything for it, for you.
I would quit shaving for awhile (**** its winter, only DH will know)
I would make sure I wore baggy pants, nylons, or anything that is tight around the infected areas.

Re: Have you ever had this problem?
Jasmain, I hope you don't mind my asking, but if it's not bacterial, why are you taking antibiotics? I found that although antibiotics can be lifesaving and wonderful, they can be just as bad for you. They break your body down - are you at least taking Inteflora or something with it? Also, try some Nutrilite hair skin & nails, it's done wonders for my skin problems, and extra Vit B, and lots of water. Maybe it helps, I'm no expert!

I just really think my doctors are stupid. I can't understand taking antibiotics either. Not taking anything else, but I've gotten some great ideas here I'm going to try!

Re: Have you ever had this problem?
I have it - it's called keratosis pilaris. It's hereditary and there's no treatment but using intese moisturizers help the skin to loosen up so the the follicles can release the jusnk in them better. Moisture, moisture, moisture.27 F 5' 7"

Re: Have you ever had this problem?
I'm giving it some time, I can't tell if it's for SURE, but it seems to me that since I started back on Atkins and have been drinking a lot of water and changed my eating habits, it has gotten a TEENIE bit better this last week. It's so hard to tell, so I'm not 100% sure at the moment. I think if it DOES get better, then it had a lot to do with the food I was eating, perhaps something my body didn't like. Only time will tell, but I'm keeping a close watch on it!

Re: Have you ever had this problem?
Sorry, I didn't have much time to post on this earlier but here's what I've been able to find on this subject. This is a condition that is caused by having a layer of dry skin that causes the hair follicles to retain the yucky stuff that the skin is trying to push out. An exfoliator like a loofah in the shower helps along with following up with an intense moisturizer with the viscosity of vaseline (best to use that one at night). Diet can play a major role as can supplements. Dr A's vita nutrient solution book has some supplement suggestions that have worked well in helping the skin stay hydrated. Cutting out the sugar and carbs does directly help how skin takes care of itself in this condition. If you do a little research on poly systic ovary syndrome (PCOS) you will find that many of the common links between patients such as being overweight, having skin disorders along with hair growing where it shouldn't all are related to eating unhealthy and is directly linked to insulin resistance which is why you will see a difference in your skin on this WOE. A good book to read is The Perricone Promise written by Nicholas Perricone who is a dermatologist. Essentially, he recommends a LC diet (although he won't call it that because he wants to sell his book) with excellent explanations as to why certain foods can actually cause skin problems along with how overproduction of insulin and insulin resistance can cause damage to organs including skin.27 F 5' 7"

Re: Have you ever had this problem?
Plus, excess antibiotics can make you immune to them later on when you might "need" them and it can cause yeast overgrowth too. YUCK!
