Hey guys -
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or experiences they can share. My dad has been "under the weather" lately. He is in his late 50's and works in construction (still) with little hope of retirement. I'm having to face the facts that he's getting older and has less wind in his sails but I'm worried about him because he's not acting like himself. He was always one to get up with the sun and go to bed when it's dark and I'm not surprised to be seeing him getting up a little later - like 7 or 8 - and still going to bed when it gets dark. Lately, he has been getting up around 9 or 10 in the morning, goes to work for 1/2 a day then coming home to sleep. Additionally, he's been having major headaches but we are kind of chalking that up to his skull being out of alignment and recently being put back in. He also seems to be out of sorts and easily disoriented. Here's an example: My parents went to a casino this weekend and my mother lost track of my dad and couldn't find him. She called security to have them keep an eye out and when they found him he was at a slot machine but was being harassed by the security guard who was insisting that he take a drug test. This is a man who is a very witty guy and has talked himself out of every ticket his whole life but in this instance acted completely helpless and so out of it they thought he was on drugs! No, he hadn't been drinking either....And maybe this next thing could've happened to anybody, but he went out an unmarked door (or a door he couldn't read without his glasses) and was trapped in the stairwell for about 4hrs. He could not find a door to let him in. Without talking to him - why did he get the notion to go out it in the first place???
I'm trying to talk my mom into taking him to the ER to get him checked out. She's worried about him enough to get him to some Dr's appts last week where they checked blood and other stuff and everything tested fine. He has medical coverage through the gov't because he's a veteran but they are awful slow about doing anything (and they have to pay for ER visits
) and he doesn't seem to be getting any better.
Has anyone experienced these kinds of things with a loved one?
