I got one for the first time this year, too. I felt overly tired for a few days, but was otherwise fine.

I always get one and never had any side effects except a sore arm for 2 days. I don't like the shot, but I HATE THE FLU!

This was my first year for a flu shot as well. No side effects other than the sore arm, like Betty. I haven't had the flu since '98 and the memory lingers...lol

I take one annually now for about the last 5 years. BEING i work around small kids that bring and share everything with me i need to protect from a harsh lengthy illness. PARENTS cant have me in bed sick dieing....so i take it.

I never had any side effect, never get sick from having it and i only get one cold a year so it must be helping!~

I used to get the flu shot every year, but didn't this year. They're starting to link it to Alzheimers, which runs in my family...

                  Re: Flu Shot?

could it be this that you are worried about rybread ..if so they do have preservative free serums ..no one has to take a flu shot but if you have taken one every year you should continue ..the rebound lack of immunity to the flu can make it more likely you will catch it...otherwise wash your hands and keep them away from your face..if you have never taken a flu shot ..no biggie ..imho it takes one bout of a real flu to convince anyone to take the shot!!!

I got a flu/virus shot and was bedridden with fibromyalgia. Count your blessing for not getting sicker.

                      Re: Flu Shot?

ok i just heard on the news today that most flu shots are 50% mercury!! And that mercury causes memory loss, which would tie into which rybread said. (they mentioned alzheimers too)

i just did a little research with these posts, which offer different opinions. The show this morning just recommended common sense things such as regularly washing hands and eating well and avoiding SUGAR which they said could suppress your immune system up to 50%!
                      just thought that was interesting
don't know if i'll be getting a flu shot or not again.

                        Re: Flu Shot?

There are thimerosal-free flu vaccines available--these are used especially for children, but an adult can use them as well. Also the flu nasal spray vaccine does not contain thimerosal, so if you are in the group that can take that preparation, you might want ask your doctor about it.

                          Re: Flu Shot?

thanks megs for the info...i had always just assumed it wasn't going to hurt anything by getting one, so i was a little suprised to hear that there was mercury in the shots. Next time im due for one, next year i suppose, i'll look into the nasal spray.
on another note about flu shots, i have a coworker who's son is allergic to eggs. So when the nurse gave him a flu shot he broke out all over, skin started to crack and bleed. Apparently they culture the vaccine in eggs!
My mom, whom is an RN, said my coworker would have had to sing a paper that stated as such, but she must of overlooked it and signed anyway.

                            Re: Flu Shot?

Yeah, that's why they don't want parents giving egg whites to infants and young children---so they don't have the chance of developing an egg white allergy. That concept began back in the 50s when the MMR was cultured on egg whites. But somehow the no egg whites thing turned into a no eggs thing. So children today are denied the nutrients found in egg yolks.

                              Re: Flu Shot?

I get one every year. I'm diabetic and almost died from the flu in '97. Can't take that chance again, plus with a 3 year old in daycare, I need the protection.
