Does baking soda work really? any clue on how much of a dose. I have been getting heartburn yesterday and today. I am sure it's a passing thing cause it's been years since it was cronic. I know it's my love of da spice! That is something that won't change. I like it hot!! Been eating alot of blackened shrimp the last couple of days.

    Any low carb solutions?

      Hey there,
Baking soda works for me... I put about a tsp or two in half a glass of warm water... It tastes nasty, so I suggest chugging it!
But it works better than Tums for me...

Hey, thanks for the answers! I don't think it's a water issue. I drink between 100-120 oz a day. I will go chug some baking soda swirl. I used to brush my teeth with baking soda and didn't mind the taste after a while so maybe it won't be too bad, I will chug anyway!

I find that having a glass of sparkling mineral water (seltzer) or soda water (plain, of course, no flavourings) really helps with heartburn / reflux. I get it very badly for some reason after eating salmon, spicy foods and eggs, and this really helps. But it makes you burp!

Ha, speaking of burping, the baking soda makes me burp too... and it tastes just as bad as when I drank it.... blah!

I too suffer from GERD but since I've been on Atkins I haven't had any problems! I'm sooo Luvin' Atkins! Good luck w/ your icky heart burn, I know it sucks!

The baking soda did the trick!! And instantly too! And yes, I had a belch that any 14 yr old boy would have been proud of. DH laughed at me and said "I guess it worked huh??"

I haven't had any trouble since, but I am pmsing this week and have noticed by body doing things I hadn't noticed before, so heartburn wouldn't surprise me. I am glad it's gone!! Thanks for the advice!

                  Re: Heartburn

I used to get really bad heartburn before atkins! To the point where I couldnt talk. I have this powder stuff called mabrogascol from Spain which is bicarb soda and aniseed (yuk) but it does work. Just not fast enough lol

But since starting Atkins, I've only had heartburn twice, and it was because I wrongfrully had some mint sauce haha.

lol not that I want heart burn or anything, but now that you mentioned it - mint sauce sounds really good!
I noticed I've been getting heart burn when I put lemon on my salad... don't know what's up w/ that but I guess the lemon has gotta go cause heart burn sucks!!!

I have trouble with really bad acid reflux. If it gets very bad, you might want to talk to a doctor and get some Nexium which can help rebuild long term damage to your esophagus. Either way, over the counter acid reducer works pretty well for me.
