Has there been any posts on contraceptive pills and the atkins way of life? My pills suggest telling my doctor if on a low-sugar diet. I searched but could not find.

    Re: The pill

Hey there Amy. I would check out the women forum. I did a poll one time and asked which contraceptive they were on and if it affected their weighloss. I know their are quite a few posts in there...somewhere! LOL! If you can't find them, you can always do another poll!

I would definately tell your Dr. If it was important enough for them to put it on the pack, I wouldn't mess around with it. You can't go wrong by telling him.

    Hope this Helps!!!

        Re: The pill

Which birth control are you ladies on? Generally taking estrogen/progesterone suppliments do hinder weight loss because of what they do to your body. Most trick it into thinking that it's already pregnant, so it will want to drop less water and less fat. I'm not sure why it would say talk to your doctor, imho you have nothing to lose by calling to ask.

All weight loss depends on your body and your pills. It certainly will not keep you from getting into ketosis; ketosis is a completely different bodily function.

I lost very well when I was on birth control--I recently went off mine and have actually begun to stall a little (too much going on to be sure if it's related, but I can tell you I was losing on aver abotu 3 pounds a week with it).

            Re: The pill

I just started Yasmin around the 14th and then started Induction this week (the 27th). I'm not sure how it is going to affect me yet, but I'll try to keep it posted somewhere. I do remember the readout saying something about it changing your potassium levels (odd) and that the dr should keep a check on it. Yet, my dr didn't take any type of blood levels on it nor told me about it. So, maybe it isn't enough to worry about?

              Re: The pill

No, all birth controls may up your potassium levels slighty, which means you don't want to go out of your way to take an extra potassium suppliment. That and don't smoke. Never smoke on birth control pills!

Yasmin is an extremely low dose pill so you should probably be ok.

And no, Richt, I've never heard of a mini!

Its literally, a mini pill, my gf is a bit older than me and the doc felt it was safer (due to her age) to go on this "mini" pill. I'm going to have a look at the packet tonight to see what it is.

                  Re: The pill

Hey Rich I have DEFINATELY heard of the mini pill!!! Lemme explain. Birth Control pills are usually a combination of estrogen and progesterone. The mini pill only contains a small dosage of progesterone. It is mainly used by breastfeeding woman. I looked into it when I was exploring my options. It's not nearly as popular though.

The effectiveness is slightly lower than the combination pill, but is still 90-99% effective. The side effects from the mini pill are also less than the comb. pill. My dr told me that is also reduces the pain, and the blood flow.

TMI, sorry Richt..but that's what it is. I personally like this option a lot better than most

You were getting cramps very badly while on the pill? Usually your pill will assuage that somewhat.

Take Evening Primrose Oil instead. It is far more beneficial for PMS symptoms.

MINI PILL. Ok. I know about the low dose progesterone pill, but I didn't know it was called that. Bizarro!

I dropped my pills when my PCOS symptoms started to disapear (especially the "obese" one, lol). Looking back at my fitday, my weight radically dropped that month! It must have been a lot of water weight I suppose.
