  • My kids found their new favorite cereal

I have been doing some research on low GI foods for my kids to eat. One of the biggest problems we have had has been with their breakfast cereal--they like chocolate and/or frosted ones, I don't. We could never agree on anything for the long term.

Well, I had purchased a few bottles of the Torani SF syrups to make my life a bit tastier and they loved the smells and wanted to taste them. My daughter asked if she could have some chocolate syrup on her Cherios yesterday morning. Why not? I added a bit (didn't measure--just a 'glug') and mixed it in. She loved it! Today she asked for Chocolate and Strawberry. Today my son asked for Chocolate and Raspberry, the first time he didn't want frosted stuff!! Tomorrow they want to try Almond Roca and Chocolate.

We are going to experiment with other cereals and syrups to see if they taste just as good. I'll keep you posted.

as we get into the cooler weather, this trick would work well with oatmeal, too, which is pretty decent on the GI scale as well.

I have never tried the syrups, how well would they mix with milk for chocolate and strawberry drinks?

I've made sodas with cream, syrups, and soda water so i'm sure you can make choclate milk with it.
If you get an atomizer spray bottle you can coat the cereal with the syrup and dry it in a slow oven for snacks. Try making them some granola with allbran, nuts, dried berries and the syrups in their milk. or even a whole grain cereal mix. it doesn't have to be flackes.

I just bought an oil spray bottle to do just this thing--here I thought I was clever for thinking this up all by myself!

I think I may run out of storage space if I make all of their favorite flavors of cereal snacks!
